- ProsNot Trend's SafeSync
- ConsExtremely poor customer service
I've been a customer of Trend's SafeSync since late last year because I wanted an extra degree of safety with my precious family photos. During the pairing process, their system systematically deleted all my files leaving the directories and thumbs files. When I noticed early this spring, I immediately called their help desk and was informed that they dont support this system and referred me to an email support desk. Long story short, I sit here 8 months later frustrated beyond belief with dimming hopes that I can get back unreplaceable digital photos of my family & kids going back nearly two decades. They refuse to talk to me on the phone hiding behind emails asking the same redundant questions then going silent while I continue to pay for the service as my only chance to recover the files. Based on my experience, I absolutely CAN NOT recommend this service.

- ProsSimple and easy to use
- Consnothing
I like this product. It is simple and easy to use. I also like the fact that they back up all of my data so I don't have to worry about it.

- ProsSharing, colaborating and mobile apps
- ConsNo need for my external storage drive now
I love this product. I use almost every day. I am a doctor in Eastern Washington and started using their business version last month. It is great to know that all my information is stored securely offsite. When I need to share large files with other doctors or insurance companies my team can simply just send a link and my staff can share files via the team folder. I just wish this came along sooner.

- ProsWhat it used to be
- ConsThat they ruined it
Why is TrendMicro SafeSync ruining their service and screwing over the early adopters that have Unlimited accounts?
When I first look in to the SafeSync product I was very excited. This was a product I've been looking for a number of years. I was so excited about SafeSync that I purchased 10 years worth of service and even did something I almost never do. I sent out an e-mail to my clients and friends recommending it.
As an IT professional and the owner of a small business I have hundreds of friends who take my advice on IT solutions. I am always very cautious to recomend any software or company as it may come back to bite me.
As of about 10 min. ago I received an e-mail letting me know that because of "customer demand" they are getting rid of unlimited versions of files and limiting the recycle bin to 90 days. As they put it "These great new features will start go live 13th July 2011". These great new features? So limiting the number of backups on my unlimited backup plan and removing files from the recycle bin is a benefit? I have no idea who's customers are more demanding that TrendMicro reduce the effectiveness of their service but I for one would like to get what I paid for.
I am now of the opinion that TrendMicro had no intention of keeping an unlimited product even for those who purchased it. It seems that they used it as a marketing ploy knowing full well that they would screw over the customers who purchase the unlimited accounts.
It's not as if I'm even abusing the offering. I'm currently using 236 GB of space. The reality is for the cost of their service I could just as easily purchase a backup hard drive system with FTP and HTTP access. A two or even four TB system would cost me less than I spent with TrendMicro and I would be free to do whatever I want with the data.
I don't know if I'm going to cancel my account with them but I do know that I will never recommend them for any product ever again. I also know that over 50% of my clients use one or more of their products in their office (because I either installed or recommended the software) and I will be recommending to all of them that they switch to a more reliable company for future business.
I'm sure the pennies that TrendMicro will save on storage will make up for the thousands of dollars in lost revenue from all of the software I will be uninstalling over the next few years.

I would never work with this company again. Last year I bought an unlimited package, which wasn't unlimited. Once I reached a level of about 120 GB I my upload time was slowed to a crawl. This year I am trying to renew to support the files I have in my account. After talking with 3 people, they are now telling me they won't allow me to do this. I am very frustrated with their policies and their cust support. These are the last people I would recommend.
