I would also like to know if you can attach a USB modem/dongle to the dock to use internet on the unit in the case you don't have/want wi fi connection?

Hi,
I'm a diehard fan of the Asus tablet and a proud owner too. But I have to come out and say that Asus customer service here in Australia sucks at best. My adaptor was acting touchy from the start and I had to keep checking every now and then to make sure it was doing its job. And then last week it just died on me. Long story short, if this happens to you go to http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/asus-transformer-faq/260-finding-your-transformer-no-longer-charges-wall-wart-adapter.html for a neat solution. I've been online for quite a while and find that this happens a lot and customer service asks for your tablet to be send to Sydney no matter where you are, they wipe out your data, reset to factory default settings and all of that just to fix a faulty charger. And no, Asus chargers are not available elsewhere in the country. Just try this neat trick before you go completely crazy. Cheers all!

This looks great, and is the first tab I've seriously thought about buying. one question though, does it run PC programs as well like a notebook? If it does, I think I'm sold as this would be a great tab/notebook.

All said and done you pay a bit extra and buy the transformer. It is worth the extra for the built in office compatible apps, Honeycombe 3.1, the ability to hook up to any PC without loading software, the extra battery life and excellent keyboard. I waited for the Xoom and was dissapointed. The Asus is the pick of the crop for an Android Tablet. Most of us dont need 3G - who wants to make inefficient telcos richer? The bluetooth & WiFi work A1. Only let down with Androids are a lot of the more technical apps are either poor or don't suit tablets yet (eg OBDII or terminal emulators,etc hopefully will get better).

Honestly, I have to say, I love technology, yet I'm sometimes the last person to buy anything "new." But this was given to me as a gift for all I do, and IT'S MY NEW LOVE!!! I had been researching all other tablets because I just didn't think the iPad was expandable enough in other technology areas (ports, expandable memory, etc.) and if I'm going to spend this kind of money, I want it ALL ("and a bag of chips" as Vee so greatly put it). I sat up with it all night and I personally cannot wait to get the dock/keyboard now because this will become my new computer...now that I found out it has Polaris Office...oh yeah...I will be able to create .doc, .xls, and .ppt files...unbelievable what this tablet can do. Another upside, I don't have to sign up for some stupid 3G or 4G service to get a discount...it has WiFi and it's already a great price without having to have a monthly service bill. Great product! Anyone who is looking for something like this, check it out...YOU WON'T BE DISSATISFIED AT ALL!!

Perrin, I agree with you completely! I just saw this over the weekend for 5 minutes (didn't pick it up either, just saw someone using it and showing it off). This are in high demand right now and I'm having a hard time finding the dock/keyboard now...but I'm on a mission! And you are correct...with the right research, people will also acknowledge that it is the BEST out there...Can't wait for the new slider one to come out now.

Ross, it does have a lot more "bells and whistles" than anything out there and I think that's what everyone is liking the most. You get more bang for your buck and in this economy its important to a lot of people.

Sorry for the long winded comment, but I love it and I wanted to express my thoughts/opinions. Also, I did run across a review (can't remember where, sorry), but it said that this type of tablet (expandable, keyboard cabable, full-screen websites, etc.) is the wave of the future...first desktops started going away, now laptops are becoming smaller, and the tablets are rising in popularity by the day, as they are more mobile.

No matter what tablet you have...enjoy it...the next best thing is always around the bend and then you will want that one, too. :)

With the 2nd generation of tablets surfacing I was keen to try out the new Motorolla Xoom and Apple iPad2 to compare the big players. I was somewhat disappointed with the experience. I had since tried the Acer Icono tab which felt better than the Xoom but still not enough to wrench my hard earned pounds from my grasp. Then I read about a new player in this field, someone who had come up under the radar and unnoticed, Asus.
My first experiences were WoW, this tablet was smooth, fast in operation and an excellent take on Honeycomb with a few additions that enhanced the overall package.
Using the browser, switching between screen and using apps were a joy, with the ability to load my already purchased apps and settings over the air and remotely were a dream.
As great as a design that the iPad2 is, this, for me , beats it hands down with the added expansion of the keyboard dock additional USB, HDMI inbuilt batteries and Flash all at a price to beat all major competitors (dock included)
P.S. Honecomb updated to 10.1 along with Asus update. It just gets better!!!

This reviewer is a Prat. How can you put on 3g as a con when its a wi fi only version. There are times when the general public should ignore what some biased reviewer has to say and trust themselves to buy something that suits them. I own this tablet and believe me when I say for 99.9% of all who try it, it will satisfy all your needs. Granted the ipads have more apps but it needs them to make up for all the stuff it can't do out of the box. If the ipads had half of the expansion and connectivity options that the transformer has we'd never hear the end of it. The transformer does it all and them some when you add the keypad. If your looking for a tablet you owe it to yourself to test drive the transformer and ignore the thoughts of some idiot reviewer trying to make a name for himself.

How is it largely unremarkable as a standalone device? Is the Ipad 2 largely unremarkable? If not then how is the EEE Pad? Ipad 2 doesn't have expandable storage, doesn't have usb slots either, doesn't have flash, widgets, a dual core processor etc. And when not being compared to the Ipad 2 I cant think of a better tablet out there(though i also think its better than the ipad but thats arguable) If the EEE pad is unremarkable then so is every other tablet on the market.
