The Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32 is a 32in, LED-edgelit LCD television with a 1920x1080-pixel (Full HD) resolution. It's not as refined as similar sized LED TVs from Samsung and Sony, but it still has good picture quality and plenty of useful features.

The Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32 LED television is a great choice if you're looking for a mid-sized LED television with good picture quality but don't want to spend too much. It isn't as polished as Samsung or Sony's LED televisions when it comes to controls or power consumption, but otherwise it is a solid performer.

Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32: Design, connectivity and features

The Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32 television vaguely reminds us of the LG 42LG60FD from 2008 — there is a hole on the bottom bezel of both TVs. On the Kogan it is used to house a touch-sensitive power button, while the rest of the television's lower bezel has a similar transparent plastic border. The Elite 100Hz LED32 TV has a very similar base design to the LG 47LX9500 3D LED television, with a translucent swivelling stand and a sturdy glass base.

The Elite 100Hz LED32's remote control is different to the one Kogan normally includes with its products. It's well laid out, but the small text on each button is a little hard to read. We had no problems using the remote control once we adjusted to it, but it was initially slightly confusing.

Similarly, the on-screen interface of the Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32 didn't leave us impressed. It's not especially bad or hard to use, but it's just a little generic and bland for our liking; the interfaces of Sony, Samsung and Panasonic LED televisions have more style and a smarter layout.

The Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32 has four HDMI ports, which is equal to competitors' offerings. You also get VGA, component and composite video connectors. Two side-mounted USB ports allow a flash drive or portable hard drive to be connected — the Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32 TV can record digital television to a connected USB storage device.

We used the USB ports of the Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32 LED television to watch an AVI file with no problems, as well as playing a few MP3 audio files and watching a JPG slideshow. We did have a problem with a downloaded DivX file that used an obscure codec, but generally the Elite 100Hz LED32 does a good job of playing compressed media files.

Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32: Picture quality, motion control and energy rating

The Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32's Full HD 1080p panel has generally good picture quality; it's well suited to watching high definition digital television or Blu-ray movies. After a bit of tweaking to the Elite 100Hz LED32's picture settings, the television displayed good sharpness levels that brought out on-screen detail without excessive edge enhancement.

The contrast levels of the Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32 are good but not spectacular. It's a superior performer to most budget and mid-range CCFL-backlit LCD televisions of similar sizes. In our The Dark Knight test footage the television displayed good detail in highlights, but exhibited some black crush and an overall slightly grey black level.

Fast motion video and wide panning shots are generally well handled by the Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32 LED television. We did notice some tearing when exceptionally fast motion moved across the entire screen, but in most movie and sports watching the television handled itself well.

The Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32 only has a 3.5 star energy rating. This is not as high as some competing LED televisions like the Panasonic TH-L32X25A; it is roughly on par with the latest CCFL-backlit LCD televisions from major brands.

Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32: Conclusion

The Kogan Elite 100Hz LED32 LED television is reasonably priced, has good picture quality and offers some useful built-in features. We don't think the interface and remote control are as good as they could be, but the Elite 100Hz LED32 is otherwise competent.
