Bought 64Gb RT from JBHiFi in Perth Western Australia in February 2013.
Unit failed with screen of death in April 2013.
Took unit back to JbHiFi on advice of Microsoft.
Told it will take 6- 8 weeks to get a repair and no loan tablets available.

I was holding out to get one of these instead of the Ipad 4. I went a few days ago to Best Buy and cross examined them at length about the tablet only to be told they just got it in and don't know much about it. The tablet is very nice, seems solid and well built. Unfortunately there were too many "ifs" that I couldn't get answered. I like Microsoft; I purchased a WP7 phone when they first came out. Unfortunately, that experience made me leery of buying something brand new that hasn't been vetted yet. My WP7 phone can't be upgraded to the WP8 OS which I felt was a rip off. Also, the WP7 phone was really locked down compared to Apple and Android products. I couldn't load custom ringtones until very recently. I see some of the same problems with this tablet. Will the OS be upgradable? Will there be more apps brought to the market for it? I found out it won't run my Office 2010 and that I'd have to pay another $100 + to get the Office 2013 that would run on the tablet.
The Keyboard isn't very good for someone wanting to do some serious typing with it. It missed a lot of key strikes when I used it.
I'm not a Microsoft hater, quite the opposite, but Microsoft needs to realize when they are entering a market where certain features have already become standard and when they introduce a new product into such a market it better have MOST if not all the standard features already available on the product and it wouldn't hurt to add one or two innovative features on top of it to gain market share! I give them a big plus for the USB connection! Unfortunately, I think they should have released a tablet with the full version of Windows 8 instead of the RT version first.

My first impression is its overall quality. Very nice feel while holding. The touch keyboard, Atari tried with the Atari 400 decades ago, and failed. This keyboard is a failure as well. It is an RT tablet which means you cannot run any windows software other than what you find in the app store. There might be 5,000 apps there most of which the average user will never us. For $699.00 it is way over priced for a tablet and the current market of tablets. This is a great example of the horse before the cart. Great tablet only to be let down by virtually no software and the keyboard is a joke. My recommendation, if you want Windows 8, then buy the full functioning tablet - the Windows 8 Pro tablets. Samsung ATIV, or HP Envy, these are a much better buy and will run legacy apps. I feel Microsoft robbed me of my hard earned money with all of these short comings.

This is a great device, that mostly gets a bad rap from people who don't want to see Microsoft enter the tablet field. Overall this is a great device that's definitely earning itself a place at the top of my Christmas list.

JBs info on 6-8 weeks was wrong and Microsoft did the right things
