Most portable GPS units have 3.5in or 4.3in screens, but displays of up to 5in are now available in sat nav devices for very reasonable prices.
Although GPS units are designed to be heard rather than viewed, a large screen has plenty of benefits, most notably a clearer, more spacious map screen and more comfortable interaction when entering an address or selecting a route.
The top three GPS brands in Australia — TomTom, Garmin and Navman — all have 5in sat navs on the market, while [[artnid:322786|Uniden's TRAX 5000]] is a great example of a well-designed large screen GPS unit for a very competitive price. Check out our guide to the best 5in GPS units on the market. Keep in mind that you can more often than not pick these up for well under the listed RRP — it pays to shop around!

Garmin's nuvi 1450T continues the fine form of the nuvi range. The extra real estate offered by the 5in screen is well utilised, making this yet another excellent GPS unit from Garmin. Highly recommended.
