Remember the days when mobile phones were becoming smaller and smaller? These days they're becoming bigger and bigger, mainly thanks to large, touchscreen displays.
Apple's iPhone may have kicked off the trend with its 3.5in capacitive touchscreen but the competition has well and truly surged ahead — many of the latest smartphones now come with displays 4in and over in size including the 4.3in HTC Desire HD, the upcoming 4.2in Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc and the 4in Samsung Galaxy S, Google Nexus S and Samsung Omnia 7.

We really want to like the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, but as it stands, it has too many niggling issues to recommend. If Sony Ericsson upgrades its software to correct the performance issues then this will be a very impressive smartphone.

- Impressive 4in display, sleek design, visually impressive UI, Mediascape app much better than regular Android offering, 8-megapixel camera
- Cons:
- Largely plastic build, sluggish performance, Android 1.6 rather than 2.1, keyboard isn't as polished as the iPhone's, no multitouch
