Best Chromebook

Here's a round-up of the best Chromebooks currently on the market

Chromebooks represent a new type of laptop that's designed to be simple. A Chromebook runs Google's Chrome OS rather than Windows, and it requires an Internet connection in order to be most useful. You can think of a Chromebook as being a new generation of 'netbook', mainly because a Chromebook is relatively inexpensive, and some models are smaller than 13 inches, making them highly mobile.

If you're already a heavy user of Google's services, such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Play Music, then a Chromebook is a great product to consider and you will get a lot out of it. Don't expect a Windows-like interface, though: for the most part, you will be working inside a Chrome Web browser.

There are currently a few Chromebooks on the market, and we've reviewed models from Acer, HP, Samsung, and Toshiba. We've ranked them here for you so that you know which is the best one to purchase. Click on each product to read the full review.

We'll be adding to this roundup as we review more of these types of products.

Acer C720

Acer's C720 Chromebook is a good option if you're after a device to serve you Google's browsing, productivity, and communications services. It performed well in our tests, and we think it's a great unit for typists especially. Some aspects of the hardware design could be better, and the local storage is a little too small for our liking.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
