Have you got limited space? Do you need something quiet? Look no further. The Acer Veriton L460 is a very compact and quiet solution that will suit the small or home business to a tee.

The Veriton is neither a top-end performer, or at all sluggish, but for its tiny frame it performs fairly well. If compact, quiet and cool are criteria for your next business PC then it's a worthy choice.

The Veriton L670G is one of the smallest business PC on the market. It has a useful amount of ports — including eSATA and DVI — and it's well designed.

For a basic business computing environment, the Extensa E261 Standard is ideal. It's inexpensive, it won't consume too much electricity, and yet it will still run most office applications swiftly.

Dell's OptiPlex 760 desktop PC provides plenty of power but lacks the ease of maintenance that other small form factor PCs offer. Better graphics options would improve its performance.

We like the trend towards a power saving focus, though there's little we can attribute to this machine that hasn't been used before. Regardless, it's a promising step forward. Performance-wise this machine does well, though the lack of e-SATA and FireWire is a shame.

There is still room for improvement on the Dell Precision T3500 workstation desktop PC, but in terms of the raw power it delivers great performance. Configuration options are plentiful, and there is generous room for expansion.

In many respects the Vostro, though aimed at small businesses, is just another PC. However the layout, safety features and included maintenance tools and services make this a promising choice for businesses searching for a no-fuss solution.

There's no doubt the Dell Optiplex 960 is quick, and that its small size and quiet operation make it an ideal unit for a cubicle environment, but it does cost a lot of money.

This is a relatively simple PC, which has been designed to be as power-efficient as possible. For the most part, it consumes well under 100W of electricity, even under a full load, yet it's definitely not a slow coach. It's suited to large PC roll-outs for schools and government departments, and also for any office where employees forget to switch off their PCs before leaving for the day.

A nice example of notebook technology in a desktop PC, HP's Ultra slim form factor PC is a good choice for space conscious businesses. There is enough power to get by in everyday tasks and the system runs quietly, too.
