Lenovo's ThinkCentre A70z is designed primarily for business users, but it's also good value for students and home users who want something inexpensive that will be quick and won't take up much space. It performed well in our tests and will be suitable for running office applications, image editing and video apps. We just wish it had a built-in Wi-Fi adapter and an SD card reader.

A step up from the Pavilion All-In-One MS212a, this beefier HP PC gives you faster media encoding and the ability play older games. Though better value options are available, this desktop PC should be suitable for families.

HP's entry-level all-in-one offering is not very powerful and doesn't offer many extra features. If you can work your way through the pre-installed bloatware, this desktop PC will suffice for Web browsing and watching videos.

Consider the ASUS Eee Top ET2002 if all you want is a basic machine for working on office documents, browsing the Web and playing videos and music. It doesn't have the grunt to perform more taxing tasks, and it isn't great for multitasking.

Everyone loves a big screen, and that's exactly what ViewSonic's VPC100 all-in-one desktop PC delivers (the screen is 18.5 inches). Unfortunately, to get to that point and hold the price down , ViewSonic has taken a few shortcuts with the system's core functionality. It's not a great performer and it lacks the touch screen, DVD drive or 802.11n Wi-Fi to make up for it.

Full HD touch-screen PCs may not be everyone's cup of tea, but for those of you who want one, Sony's L Series is a good option. Its screen is excellent, it's easy to use and it ships with plenty of software so you can be up and running in no time. However, it could use more hard drive space and a few more expansion options.

ASRock's diminutive Ion 330HT-BD 'nettop' media centre is brilliant if you're an avid movie watcher with a large collection of digital media or Blu-ray discs. It's head and shoulders above any Blu-ray player or media streamer in terms of functionality, and its tiny size and small ecological footprint mean you can set it up next to your television and forget about turning it off.

Apple's latest iMacs are noticeably refined compared to their predecessors, though they aren't significantly different. Both 21.5in models are quite powerful and their 1080p LED-backlit displays are certainly vibrant.

The Medion akoya P4010 (MD 8850) all-in-one touch-screen PC is relatively inexpensive, has good features, and is easy to use and set up. That's enough for us to recommend it to anyone who is after a PC that the whole family can enjoy.

The CPL Core i5 750 desktop PC is well built, fast and looks reasonably menacing. It can be used for gaming as well as office work and video editing and it has plenty of room for expansion. For $1710, we think it's a pretty good buy.

As its name suggests, Centre Com's Sphere i5 Basic is nothing special -- save for the fact that it features Intel's latest mainstream CPU, the Core i5 750. It ran well in our tests and it has plenty of room for expansion. It's also not too pricey.

Not everyone will like the appearance of the Aurora ALX, but there's no denying that it's a powerful machine that will please most serious gamers. We like its design and construction. Although it's not a perfect PC, we think it's a worthy machine for those who can afford to splurge on it.

We're a bit down on the overall design of the Dell Studio XPS 8000, especially its insides, but that shouldn't take away from the fact that it's a fast machine. It can be used for almost any task, except for high-end gaming, and it's suitable for the home or even small offices.

Dell's Studio One 19 is a neat all-in-one PC that is perfect for families. The kids will love its included touch-screen applications, but it can be used for more advanced pursuits, too, such as photo editing, video editing and media encoding.
