The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS42 is an ultra-affordable compact camera that does the basics well. It might not excel in any one area, but at this price, it's not supposed to. A good choice for skint casual users.

Novice photographers can just set the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS62R to Intelligent Auto and fire away without worrying about changing settings. It's reasonably priced, too.

Panasonic's LUMIX DMC-GF1-K is a solidly built compact camera that lets you use different lenses. It's capable of capturing beautifully clear images and it's fast. It does have some issues when focusing in dim lighting, and noise is noticeable at high ISO speeds.

We can't wait to get Panasonic's Lumix DMC-GF1 digital SLR camera back in our lab for some more in-depth tests. But our initial impressions are good, and this model could be the one to cement the reputation of the fledgling Micro Four-Thirds system.

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZR1 is a versatile camera with specifications that belie its small size. It can take photos at a maximum wide angle of 25mm, and its 8x zoom can reach up to 200mm. It's easy to use, has excellent focusing, and can take vibrant and reasonably clear photos.

Panasonic's Micro Four Thirds line-up gets its second model in the Lumix DMC-GH1. It's a very good quality camera for taking stills and also does very well when shooting high-definition video. However, at $3299, it's quite expensive so only go for it if you absolutely must have the HD recording capability.

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FS7 has every feature that a novice user might require and its features work as advertised. It's worth considering this digital camera if you don't want to spend more money on a model with a bigger zoom lens or a higher megapixel count.

If you’re looking for an alternative to the benchmark models of Canon’s IXUS compact camera line-up, the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FS15 is a great choice. It offers a good lens and intelligent picture modes, though it has a smaller screen than we would have liked and lacks high-definition video recording.

Apart from a couple of design quirks, we think the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TZ7 digital camera is almost the perfect point-and-shoot. It's easy to use, has a wide-angle lens with a huge zoom, produces good colours and clear images, and it can double as a capable video camera. We definitely recommend it.

There's plenty to like about the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FT1 apart from its rugged build — it takes great still images and good videos, making it a true hybrid. We think Panasonic should ditch the zoom slider and replace it with buttons, and also make the rotational dial a little tougher. But apart from that, we had tons of fun using this camera and you probably will, too.

This hybrid digital camera is capable of taking great still shots and 720p high-definition videos. We liked the overall image quality of our test shots, videos looked smooth and vibrant, and we made good use of the autofocus modes that are available. The only thing we don't like is the location of the shutter, which is to the inside of the mode dial, and we also wish it had a manual mode.

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FT1 is a rugged camera that's ideal for outdoor adventurers. However, the pre-production model we tested was a little slow and it didn't take great shots while underwater. It will perform well as a video camera, so it's a decent hybrid model for those of you who also want to get into motion pictures.

It's not a traditional D-SLR but the LUMIX DMC-G1K is definitely as versatile as one, and much more compact. It's easy to use, and its images are very sharp. Give it a go if you want something that won't compromise your mobility yet will give you the flexibility to change lenses.

This is a decent model to choose if you want a long zoom range and versatile controls, yet don't want a bulky digital SLR. It's good for travellers in this respect, despite its soft pictures and slightly underdone colour.

Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FX38 is a great compact camera for cashed-up consumers. It combines impressive image quality with a slim, stylish and sturdy design as well as a 25mm wide-angle lens, making it suitable for a variety of tasks.
