While waterproof housings are available for other small camcorders, they typically cost at least as much as the Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 does. The Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 is a good choice for use in and around water, including under rain and snow, and for situations where you don't want to risk recording with a more-expensive camera.

Sanyo has made a name for itself producing high quality, low cost camcorders and the Xacti VPC-FH1 is no exception. While it cannot hope to match high-end models from Canon or Sony, it remains a solid performer nonetheless.

To be fair, the Xacti FH1 is hardly an expensive piece of kit: we think its asking price is fair given the overall still and video quality and the advanced capabilities of the camera. It’s simply that when a product promises Full HD at 1920x1080 and 60fps progressive capture at that, we expect superlative results. The Sanyo Xacti FH1 gives reasonable results and provided us with some memorable footage.

If you're a fan of pistol grip camcorders, the Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG10 is one of the best-value HD options on the market. It's compact, stylish and capable of taking some impressive video and photos.

The Sanyo Xacti VPC-TH1 (EXBL) is a good camcorder that does a fair job in most areas. Its low price tag makes up for its assorted flaws.

The Sanyo Xacti HD1010 is one of the best HD camcorders we've reviewed in this price range, combining comprehensive manual features with top-grade video quality. Despite the unwieldy controls and difficult menu interface, it remains a winner.

The VPC-CA8(EXBK) is a minor upgrade of Sanyo's previous waterproof model, the VPC-CA65 (EXW). Despite some improvements to image quality (particularly when it comes to still pictures), its limited underwater functionality remains unchanged.

The Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG9 is a cute standard-def offering that comes with some interesting modes and features. Unfortunately, its poor video performance and annoying control scheme are kind of hard to overlook.

The VPC-CA65 (EXW) is a semi-decent underwater camcorder that's unlikely to break your bank balance. However, it has been outclassed by the Panasonic SDR-SW20, which offers better features for a similar price tag.

Despite the presence of superior alternatives on the market, the HD1000 remains an impressive and affordable HD option. As a sweet bonus, it also happens to be one of the coolest looking gadgets you'll ever own.

While the splash-proof case and tiny design of the Xacti VPC-CA6 will appeal to some, those after good quality video and stills with an easy to operate control setup should look elsewhere.

The world's smallest high definition camcorder is great for still pictures and range of features but less so for the quality of its video.

The Xacti VPC-C5 is miles better than Sanyo's previous efforts and we won't be surprised when other manufacturers emulate the camera/camcorder hybrid formula. But remember, if you want a straightforward digicam, you'll find better elsewhere.

The Sanyo Xacti VPC-C1 is a combination digital camcorder and digital still camera that takes reasonable still images and surprisingly good quality video.
