The Panasonic HDC-TM300 HD camcorder is a great option for enthusiasts and amateurs alike. It combines user friendly controls with in-depth manual features, and is capable of taking excellent HD video. Highly recommended.

Panasonic’s HDC-TM200 camcorder sits in a difficult position, costing only a few hundred dollars less than the flagship KDC-HS200-K. It is still a capable camcorder, with great quality video when using automatic settings as well as surprisingly stills mode.

When judged on video quality alone, the Panasonic HDC-HS200-K is an excellent camcorder that can match almost anything on the market. Unfortunately, its high price tag coupled with certain hardware omissions has slightly diminished its appeal. Nevertheless, it remains a top-drawer choice for (wealthy) novices.

The Panasonic HDC-HS20-K is a reasonable high-definition camcorder with some very user-friendly features. If you're new to video and want the Full HD treatment, this model mostly delivers.

The Panasonic SDR-S26-K digital video camcorder is a solid performer in the standard-definition space. It offers an impressive array of features for the asking price, the highlight of which is its ultra-powerful 70x optical zoom.

The Panasonic SDR-H80 is an excellent hard disk–based camcorder with plenty of user-friendly features. If you're in the market for an affordable standard-def camcorder, this model will not disappoint.

The Panasonic HDC-SD20-K is a reasonable high-definition camcorder that manages to impress thanks to its low price tag. It distinguishes itself from the SD crowd thanks to the inclusion of O.I.S and lots of user-friendly features.

The Panasonic HDC-SD100 provides a great set of well-implemented tools that are in the right place at the right price. Unfortunately, poor connection placement and poor imaging make it hard to recommend this camcorder.

If the images from Panasonic's HDC-HS100 equalled its great handling and usability, this model would be a clear winner. The HS100 provides the best controls we've seen in a small HD camcorder, but the images lag behind those of AVCHD camcorders such as the Sony Handycam HDR-SR12 and Canon HF10 camcorders — and those models offer decent usability, to boot.

The P2 AG-HVX170 is a miniaturised upgrade of the P2 AG-HV202. With the exception of a Mini DV tape deck, it offers all of the same functionality as its big brother, along with some improvements. It should prove more than sufficient for commercial production, news gathering and independent movie making.

The Panasonic SDR-S7 is clearly not for everyone, but if you're looking for a cheap, user-friendly and highly portable camera, this is one of the better buys on the market. (It looks ferociously cute, too.)

As the 'middle child' in Panasonic's standard-def HDD family, the SDR-H60 arguably serves little purpose. It lacks the advanced features found on the SDR-H280, yet adds little of note when compared to the SDR-H40.

With its 30GB hard drive, SD card slot and 42x optical zoom, the SDR-H40 is a versatile little performer. If you're on the lookout for an affordable standard-def camera for casual use, it is definitely one of the better buys on the market.

The SDR-H280 is a well-rounded hybrid camcorder that offers high-grade standard-definition video. It might not represent the best value for money when compared to Panasonic's other SD efforts, but it certainly offers the best video quality.
