The Flip UltraHD is a better performer than the MinoHD and we prefer it, thanks to its doubled storage capacity, sharper-coloured footage, better zoom, user-replaceable battery and HDMI-out port.

The Kodak Zi6 is anything but Z grade. It offers impressive HD image quality and some interesting extras, including variable framerate options. For the price and size, it's a winner.

To be fair, the Xacti FH1 is hardly an expensive piece of kit: we think its asking price is fair given the overall still and video quality and the advanced capabilities of the camera. It’s simply that when a product promises Full HD at 1920x1080 and 60fps progressive capture at that, we expect superlative results. The Sanyo Xacti FH1 gives reasonable results and provided us with some memorable footage.

If you want a 'proper' camcorder with all the HD connections included and the bonus of a fairly good resolution camera built in, you’d do well to give the Medion Life E47000 a look. An accomplished model with an unbeatable price tag — just watch out for battery drain.

Despite the Creative Vado's drawbacks, it's a really well-priced device that's good for capturing off-the-cuff video clips. If video quality is important to you, you should steer clear. But Creative's pocket camcorder is serviceable and inexpensive.

The full-featured Zi8 captures the best HD pocket-camcorder footage we've seen, plus it has shooting options galore. Tere are some interface and key usability issues and digital zoom often get in the way.

Foto-Mosaik-Edda is free, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do, and well. If you've got a ton of photos of your kids, and want to give a relative a one-of-a-kind gift to frame, give Foto-Mosaik-Edda a spin.

It’s a webcam inside a dog! Don’t expect high quality, but it does its job with a minimum of fuss.

It won’t blow you away with its quality, but it does provide a cheap alternative to the competition.

The VX-5500 is a basic little webcam that offers decent sound and image quality. It’s not the most versatile webcam on the market, but it gets the job done for a semi-reasonable price. Of course, the same thing can be said of every other Microsoft model. A less than essential purchase.

The Lifecam NX-3000 performs its primary function -- and little else -- to middling effect. If your notebook is already equipped with an inbuilt camera there's very little reason to consider this purchase.

The Quickcam E 3500 doesn't do anything terribly wrong, but there's nothing to make it stand out from the crowd either. If you're after a functional webcam with minimal bells-and-whistles, you could probably do worse.
