Sony have certainly made a giant leap forward in handheld gaming and I'm sure Nintendo are keeping a close eye on them, but while the games are top notch, the multimedia components could have been better and far more flexible. Still, she's a sexy beast of a machine that's earned the lust of gamers everywhere and justifiably so.

If you're into crime noir action games, then Yakuza won't disappoint you. The gameplay may be a little convulsive but Yakuza more than makes up for that through engrossing story and attention to details.

Super Monkey Ball Adventure (Sega)

Adventure's six party games and puzzle-based challenge mode are the best this game has to offer. With multiple players, Adventure flies in the face of its weak story mode and becomes a genuinely fun experience.

Not everyone's going to love the transplanted platform puzzler elements, and RPG purists might be turned off by the wafer-thin town exploration, but just discovering the way your different options fit together is so endlessly absorbing that even wildly divergent tastes will agree that Valkyrie Profile 2 is yummy indeed.

We had fun romping through God Hand's quirky post-apocalyptic world and it certainly has enough going for it to scratch your itch for some mindless action. But it's more suited as a light snack and won't satisfy your hunger for a gourmet feast of beat-'em-up goodness.

While it will take a swipe at your bank balance, Sony's Playstation 3 is definitely a powerful machine. Offering incredible graphics and the added bonus of a Blu-Ray drive, it is a great console to complete your high definition lounge room setup.

The Wii's ridiculously enjoyable titles and innovative, motion-sensitive controllers help make it feel more like a toy you'll want to share with a group of players than a console you'd use strictly on your own for hours on end. If you have a group of friends at the ready, or if you're looking to buy an affordable, fun console for yourself or your kids, get yourself a Wii.
