At just $199, the Navman C40 is certainly cheap and for the most part it does a reasonable job. It is essentially an older GPS unit with updated software, though; Mio's Moov range is a valid alternative at a similar price.

With an extra-large display, a good user interface and some nifty mapping features, Uniden's TRAX 5000 is certainly good value for money. It has a few niggles that detract from the overall experience, though, but if you can get past these you're left with a competent GPS unit.

The Mio Moov A470 isn't a bad GPS unit; in fact, it's pretty darn good. However, the Moov A430 offers a similar performance for considerably less money. Unless you really, really want Bluetooth, go for the cheaper model.

Navman's entry-level C series is headed by the C60 -- a cheap GPS unit that offers advanced lane guidance. Essentially this is an older GPS unit with updated software and a different coloured case. If you can spare a few extra dollars, the units in Mio's latest Moov range offer better value.

There are no advanced features like Bluetooth and live traffic updates, but Navman's MY30 still manages to include lane guidance and 3D landmarks. Overzealous school zone alerts, an inconsistent map and an average screen will disappoint.

The inclusion of a Bluetooth hands-free speakerphone makes the Garmin nuvi 1260 GPS unit good value for money. If the smaller display and the limitations it brings doesn't concern you, then this GPS unit offers an excellent navigational experience for a fairly low price.

The Mio Moov A350 represents great value for money. While its performance isn't spectacular, it does a very good job for the asking price. If you're on a budget and need a cheap GPS unit that does the basics, look no further.

If you can live without traffic updates and Bluetooth hands-free, Garmin's nuvi 1350 is an excellent GPS with a competitive price tag. The lack of advanced lane guidance is a real shame, but the clear maps, good voice instructions and fast GPS chip should keep most users satisfied.

A large screen and a revamped user interface make the Navman MY50T effortless to use, but the lack of Bluetooth hands-free and overzealous school zone warnings spoil the party. There is a lot to like about this mid-range GPS, but it's far from perfect.

The Mio Moov A430 isn't a perfect product by any stretch of the imagination, but for the asking price it's hard to go wrong. If you're looking for something cheap to get from A to B, it will definitely get the job done.

Simple but effective maps, clear voice instructions, fantastic lane guidance and a speedy GPS receiver make for an excellent navigational experience on the whole. The Garmin nuvi 1390T may not be as flashy as some competitors, but it more than makes up for the lack of bling.

If you need a cheap GPS unit, Kogan's EziNav G3 is a good option. Unfortunately the map interface and some voice directions can be confusing.

The Navman MY500XT's capacitive touch screen is a nice inclusion on this feature-packed GPS. The glide interface won't be to everyone's liking but it's much more responsive than previous versions and can now be turned off. The maps aren't perfect and seem to lack a little detail when compared to competitors, but there remains plenty to like about the MY500XT.

TomTom's XL 340 is a little pricey when compared to competing GPS units with similar features, but what you get is a great user experience. An excellent interface, lane guidance, IQ Routes technology and a slim design make this another great TomTom GPS.
