Panasonic’s SC-PT875W home theatre system is a good addition to its Viera range of plasma televisions. It’s reasonably constructed and the DVD playback quality is good. Plus the lower price point makes this a good option for budget buyers.

Panasonic's SC-BT207W home theatre system is a good choice if you're looking to team up a new big screen television with a separate sound system. It doesn’t have the aural abilities of more expensive home theatre setups, but for its size and price a reasonable amount of features are included.

If you want big, booming, mate-impressing sound, then the Sony Super MU.TE.KI (HTDDW8500) has exactly what you need. It’s large and brash and delivers a huge amount of bass when needed.

For music, TV and movie audio the Sharp HT-DV50H is good for a stereo system. Its picture quality isn’t as good as a dedicated DVD or Blu-ray player, but as an all-in-one system it would be a good accompaniment to a budget LCD television.

If you have the spare space to set up the Sony MU.TE.KI (HT-DDW7500)’s nine separate speakers and two amplifier stacks, you’re in for a treat. The MU.TE.KI home theatre system has plenty of power to give and the right digital sound processing to simulate multi-point surround sound.

The LG HB954WA is a feature-packed home theatre bundle with decent sound quality. We like the inclusion of YouTube access and the integrated iPod dock, and the fact that this system is one of the cheaper Blu-ray compatible units serves to recommend it further.

For a budget speaker system, Sharp’s HT-SB200 sound bar performs well. Its small speakers reproduce surprisingly large amounts of mid-bass and it complements the in-built speakers of Sharp’s LCD televisions well.

The JVC NX-F3 is a home theatre system that provides rich bass, clear treble and fantastic DVD upscaling to 1080p. We don't like the low build quality of the controller unit at this price point, but there's little else to fault this package on.

The DAVIS50 isn’t invisible by any stretch of the imagination — the subwoofer sticks out like a sore thumb — but it does allow a lot of flexibility in placement, which might make it attractive to some buyers.

The ANPR1500H is a great stereo replacement for the in-built speakers of a flat-panel television as well as providing a stylish stand and A/V equipment rack. It won’t be able to emulate a proper surround sound system for movie playback, but it’ll do just fine for most users.

If you want an all-in-one home theatre that's simple to set up, the SC-BT105 is the pick of the bunch. It can handle your iPod's music, video or photo collection as well as playing standard- and high-definition content through the built-in Blu-ray drive. It may not be as well put together as a 'proper' enthusiast home theatre setup, but for most users it'll be more than adequate.
