The Freecom MediaPlayer II is likable enough in terms of looks, but it has a very basic, outdated onscreen menu system, not enough connection options or playback formats and is ultimately overshadowed by better-specced, better value and more attractive media streamers.

For a casual user who wants to stream digital video, photo and music files as well as watch stored high-definition content, the ME1 works well. If you can handle the lack of digital video connections and the speed of the interface, the ME1 is a good option.

While we experienced some problems using a Sonos system with a ZoneBridge, they weren't out of the ordinary (unfortunately) for network streaming devices. We'd still recommend a ZoneBridge if you're going to spring for a Sonos system and your router is in an area of the house where you don't plan on listening to tunes.

If you carry your movies, music and photos around on a flash drive the Mediagate MG-M2TV is a great little device to keep by your television to view content. It doesn’t have any network access or an internal hard drive to store content, but if you don’t require these features the Mediagate MG-M2TV will serve your needs well.

If you already have a FreeAgent Go portable hard drive, the Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ media streamer is a good accompaniment. For other users it's still a reasonable choice but it loses its competitive edge.
