By making a serious attempt to match the web security needs of small businesses, Netgear has created a product that sits between the relatively spare feature set of the UTM firewall and the expensive depth of enterprise-class web security gateways. The Netgear ProSecure STM600 gives network managers an excellent option to add web security at a reasonable price with minimum risk.

The Telstra BigPond Elite Wireless Network Gateway performs well, taking advantage of Next G's superior network coverage and speed. However the expensive initial outlay and ongoing monthly costs are hard to swallow.

We wanted to like this ADSL2+ router with 3G backup support, but it did its best to drive us crazy. It wasn't reliable during our tests and its Web interface gave us plenty of problems when trying to set up a wireless network. We'd wait until new firmware comes out before considering it.

The Netgear WNDR3700 is fast, reasonably easy to set up, and stocked with some interesting features. We love the ability to run 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks simultaneously, and the built-in USB function is useful for sharing content locally and across the Internet. All up, it's an above-average wireless router for the home or small office.

It may only support 802.11n Lite, but TP-Link's TL-WR741ND is a suitable upgrade for anyone still using 802.11g. It can be found for a price between $60-70 online, but if you can afford to spend a few dollars more on an full-blown 802.11n router, you'll get be rewarded with much faster throughput and a greater wireless range.

We found the NB6Plus4Wn ADSL2+ modem router to be reliable, but slow when used with Centrino laptops. Overall it's fairly easy to set up, although its advanced features, such as QoS, are not straightforward and will require some research if you want to get the most out them.

The TP-Link TL-PS310U print server is useful if you want to access a multifunction device or USB storage device over your network, but it's not overly useful for sharing these devices with many users.
