The Netgear WNDR3700 is fast, reasonably easy to set up, and stocked with some interesting features. We love the ability to run 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks simultaneously, and the built-in USB function is useful for sharing content locally and across the Internet. All up, it's an above-average wireless router for the home or small office.

The Netgear DGN2000 is an unobtrusive router that offers a basic feature-set.

The WNR3500 produced disappointing results in all of our wireless tests. There are better products available if you want fast wireless speed as well as a Gigabit Ethernet switch. It's also expensive!

Having the ability to run 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks simultaneously is an advantage, but this unit's speed wasn't as good as we hoped and it's also limited to running 2.4GHz-based 802.11n adapters at 54Mbps.

Good features and wireless streaming speed were countered by random drop-outs, which caused us many headaches.

Netgear’s DG834N provides good value in terms of router and modem capability and security features. We were very impressed with its modem sync speeds, but no Gigabit Ethernet and poor throughput speeds make this a poor router for heavy data transfer and media streaming needs.

This is a new-generation networking kit that will provide fast transfer rates between a server and a receiving device. It's easy to setup and can be connected to receiving devices via a 5GHz-compatible wireless 802.11 draft-n signal or Ethernet. It won't work with existing 802.11g equipment, but that's not a problem if you already have an 802.11g network and just want something to service your media devices and gaming consoles exclusively.

For desperate and network-less users, Netgear's HDXB101 is a realistic alternative, especially in situations where a wireless network is unreliable. It will deliver enough speed for streaming multimedia applications and it's very easy to set up and use.

The SPH200D is convenient if you are a regular Skype user, and is only hindered by a bland design and a slow user interface.

It's got good range and can transfer files quickly, but it's not a major step up from existing 802.11g routers. It's not worth upgrading to this router if you're already using a decent 802.11g router, but if you're in the market for a new router anyway, this one is good value.

The SPH101 is clearly for those who want the latest technology and are prepared to pay for it. Although it's convenient for regular Skype users, it's still costly and doesn't offer as many features as it potentially could. If you want to use Skype on the move though, then this is very much up your avenue.
