The Joybook Lite U121 Eco is a good option for anyone who wants a big netbook with long battery life. It has an 11.6in screen and a mostly full-sized keyboard, and a 6-cell battery. However, its build quality could be better and we'd like BenQ to include options for a 3G module and a solid state drive.

Armed with an Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1.5GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive, the Dell Latitude 2100 performs well. Thanks to its 6-cell battery it also lasts a long time away from an outlet. It's a comfortable netbook to use and its rugged design should help it withstand inadvertent knocks and drops, as well as accidental spills.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is a great netbook, especially if you want a high resolution, a large amount of storage space and the convenience of an HDMI output. It's let down by the poor digital TV software, slow performance and the awkward touchpad. We also liked the super cool lid artwork!

The Fujitsu M2010 has a sturdy build and comfortable keyboard, and good battery life but we'd like an ExpressCard/34 slot and the higher resolution screen found on the M1010 netbook. It's a stylish netbook with a bright screen that you can comfortably use outdoors and on the road and it does come with a better warranty than other netbooks on the market.

A big screen, fast graphics and good hard drive performance are just some of the things to like about HP's first Windows 7-based netbook. It's a great unit for anyone who wants to view high-definition video content while on the go and it's comfortable enough to use for extended periods.

The HP mini 110 (NB-1006TU_09) is worth considering if you're after a very portable and relatively easy to use netbook; it looks good, too. You can also save some money by opting for the Linux version, which costs $499 and has a 16GB solid-state drive instead of a 160GB hard drive.

Those of you with an eye for style will want to check out HP's Mini by Studio Tord Boontje. It features a very nice 3D pattern of flora and endangered animals on its lid, while on the inside it has all the components of a basic netbook. There couldn't be more of a contrast between the bog-standard netbook specifications and the extravagant styling, but there's no law that states simple netbooks can't look good, and the Mini by Studio Tord Boomtje definitely does look good!

The HP Mini 5101 feels more like a regular laptop than a netbook and this is because of its sturdy construction, relatively good speed and excellent keyboard design. Not only that, it looks good and it has a 1366x768 screen. There really isn't too much wrong with this netbook at all, and we think it's probably the best netbook currently available on the market.

Despite its flaws, the Kogan Agora Netbook Pro is a reasonable performer for the asking price. If you can get to grips with the open source OS (or have a spare Windows licence handy), it will satisfy as a secondary notebook.

Despite its reduced size and resolution, the Lenovo IdeaPad S10e is one of the best netbooks on the market. It's very well built, it has an expansion slot and its battery lasts a long time. Its keyboard is hard to get used to, but some of the people we showed it to loved it.
