The MSI Wind 12 U200 is bigger and more powerful than a typical netbook, yet it's still small and easy to travel with. We love its keyboard, its battery life is good and its CPU is relatively powerful. Our main complaint is that it's a top-heavy unit, so firm knocks can make it topple backwards, especially when using it on your lap.

The MSI GX620 is adequate for gaming, but it's probably better suited to a casual (rather than hardcore) gamer who is looking for a desktop replacement notebook. It will run current games but not at a high detail level. Its overall performance is good but it could use one or two more USB 2.0 ports.

The MSI X-Slim X600 is a big but light notebook with a thin frame. It's a good all-round notebook with decent specifications, but its touchpad is in a position that can hamper typing.

For travellers — or anyone who wants to work for long periods of time away from a power outlet — the MSI Wind U115 is perfect. Its battery life is the longest we've seen in an Intel Atom-based netbook, lasting well over five hours. We also like the inclusion of an SSD drive, but we wish it had a larger storage capacity.

The MSI X340 is one of the best ultraportable notebooks on the market and should be a desirable option for anyone who wants something very light and affordable, yet bigger and easier to use than a netbook. It still doesn't have as much power as a non-ultra-thin notebook in the same price range, but with the X340 it's all about the light weight and ease of use, and having enough power to undertake tasks that aren't too intensive.

The MSI Wind U123T is a fine netbook for travellers, students and TV junkies. It ships with a digital TV tuner that lets you record programs onto the netbook and then watch them while on the road. It's also useful for typing documents, viewing photos and listening to music.

The MSI PX600 notebook has an attractive design and powerful components. It also has plenty of ports, such as eSATA and HDMI. We weren't particularly pleased with its keyboard, however.

The MSI Wind U120 netbook looks good, performs as expected, has a good amount of connectivity, and its keyboard is close to perfect. We only wish the period and comma keys were bigger and that the balance of the unit was better. If you can live with the poor balance and undersized period and comma keys, then there's no reason why you should not buy this netbook.

For its sub-$700 asking price, you can't go wrong with the MSI Wind. It was responsive in our tests, and has plenty of storage and a large screen. Most importantly, its battery lasts a long time. This ultraportable is also quite comfortable to use.

Until now MSI's notebook range had not really impressed us, but the GX600 is a fairly good performer with the added potential of the turbo mode. The inclusion of e-SATA and HDMI ports show that MSI has its finger on the pulse, which will help keep this notebook functional into the future.

All up, the S430 is an inexpensive option for users who want to run simple tasks. Its performance was sluggish in our tests, and we found the keyboard to be a little hit-and-miss, but it's a suitable unit for browsing the Web and working on not-too-CPU-intensive office documents.

The MSI MegaBook EX600 is a solid, but far from outstanding unit. It will handle most basic tasks with ease, but will struggle with more demanding applications.
