There's nothing spectacular about the Dell Inspiron 1545 notebook -- until you take its price into account. With an RRP of just $999, it's one of the best-value all purpose notebooks we've tested.

Overall, the superslick Dell Latitude XT2 will make you the envy of the boardroom. It offers most of the bells and whistles you might need, and it runs briskly enough for you to get your work in order. This machine offers more than enough to like--except for maybe the price tag.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is a great netbook, especially if you want a high resolution, a large amount of storage space and the convenience of an HDMI output. It's let down by the poor digital TV software, slow performance and the awkward touchpad. We also liked the super cool lid artwork!

The Dell Vostro 1320 is a good choice for any business user who wants a laptop that offers the best of both worlds: portability and fast performance. We just wish it had better battery life and more modern ports.

Dell's Vostro 1520 is a 15.4in notebook with a 9-cell battery, yet it weighs a reasonable 2.7kg. With a built-in 3G modem and a powerful CPU, it's a great workhorse for the business user who wants a mid-sized notebook that's comfortable to work on.

If you want a small laptop but yearn for more performance than a netbook can provide, the Dell Vostro 1220 is an excellent option. It's a fully featured 12.1in laptop with good speed and battery life. Its build quality isn't great, but the price is right.

The Dell Vostro 1720 is a well-rounded machine and should suit any business user who wants large notebook with a high resolution display instead of a space-hogging PC and monitor setup. Don't bank on it for good 3D graphics performance though.

There is beauty to be found in the Dell Adamo (Admire), but most of it is only skin-deep. With an RRP of $3699, it's simply far too expensive for the specs on offer. Only fashion junkies need apply.

Armed with an Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1.5GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive, the Dell Latitude 2100 performs well. Thanks to its 6-cell battery it also lasts a long time away from an outlet. It's a comfortable netbook to use and its rugged design should help it withstand inadvertent knocks and drops, as well as accidental spills.

Dell's Mini 12 is the first netbook that breaks the 10in screen barrier, while still managing to remain thin and light. The 1GB RAM limit is disappointing and some will scoff at a 12in notebook being dubbed a netbook, but the Mini 12 is reasonably priced and should appeal to plenty of users.

The Dell Studio XPS 13 looks good and it is a good performer. However, this notebook produces a lot of heat and has some problems with its installed audio driver. Go for it if you want plenty of speed along with portability, but be sure to disable its stacsv.exe process and watch out for the heat while it's on your lap.

For users who run engineering, design or animation programs, this mobile workstation is a worthwhile choice. It's very fast, and the best part is you won't be shackled to your desk and will be able to use the same machine either at home or in the office.

The ATG should satisfy users who are after a well-performing, semi-rugged notebook, but more demanding users who are looking for a unit to use in a very dusty area might want something that has dust-protected ports and slots as well.
