Not quite a bargain bin printer, Canon's PIXMA MP490 inkjet multifunction is still a decent impulse buy. It provides decent quality photo and document printing and an easy-to-use interface.

The mid-range Canon PIXMA MP560 inkjet multifunction printer isn't feature-packed but it can print high quality documents and photos, and the integrated Wi-Fi makes it easy to connect and control wirelessly.

Canon's PIXMA iX7000 offers A3+ printing and automatic duplexing, but lacks the simplicity and usability of cheaper printers. It prints slowly but its output on glossy media is fantastic thanks to the use of pigment-based ink technology.

Canon's PIXMA MP640 inkjet multifunction offers network connectivity, a sizeable colour LCD and USB flash drive support. It's not a fast printer, but you can expect the same excellent print quality you get from other Canon inkjets.

The Canon Pixma IP4700 really impressed us. It is a good quality inkjet printer that produces excellent results in a short amount of time. We also liked the fact that it was exceptionally quiet. If excellent prints are what you need and you aren’t in the market for either copying or scanning features, this is the ideal printer.

The Canon Selphy CP780 is a cheap and nearly idiot-proof snapshot printer. We just wish it was faster and had a lower cost per print.

The Canon CanoScan LiDE 200's main limitations are that it scans only reflective items (no film scans) and it can't do much in the way of OCR. We were able to create searchable PDFs and plain-text (.txt) files from various documents, but we couldn't save multicolumn layouts (including tables and graphics) in RTF, Microsoft Excel, or any other editable file formats. If you don't need to scan film or perform a lot of OCR, the portable Canon CanoScan LiDE 200 is a compact and energy-efficient scanner.

The Canon Pixma MX330 gives entry-level users a decent multifunction device to work with, but high-volume users would do well to choose a model with less-expensive consumables.

Costly consumables aside, Canon's SELPHY ES3 photo printer is a fantastic buy that provides excellent print quality in a small package.

Where the Canon Pixma MX320 MFP really struggles is with running costs. Both mono and colour prints are rather steep in comparison with many an MFP in the sub-$150 market, a heavily populated category these days. With average speed, high running costs, and a number of features not quite achieving their potential, the MX320 struggles to justify itself when there are so many strong rivals around.

It prints slowly and doesn't have the largest paper trays, but Canon's PIXMA MX860 inkjet multifunction printer offers a lot of features for its price. It also offers excellent print quality.

Though the MP980 offers some decent features, its printing speeds and some quality issues make for a disappointing machine, particularly from Canon.

Though the MP480 suffers from the major flaws found in other budget multifunctions, it largely makes up for these problems through decent quality printing.

Slick, very user-friendly and high in quality, the Canon Pixma MP540 is on the whole a superb printer. It’s perhaps not quite as fast as we’d like but, otherwise, it’s a very good model.

The PIXMA MP630 is little more than a refresh of the MP610 with no changes other than slower print times. While it still has some merit, this unit isn't up to the regular Canon quality level.
