As with OmniPage, you need to use OCR a lot -- particularly with such things as digital images -- to make the investment in ABBYY FineReader 9.0 worthwhile as an upgrade. However, accuracy in our tests was very good, even with distorted photographs. Serious users will probably find OmniPage better for features, but those handling a large number of documents will appreciate ABBYY FineReader 9.0.

ACDSee Pro 2 is a good application for photographers and graphic designers who use the Windows platform, and the improvements in the app's core features and interface have made this product even better than the original ACDSee Pro. At $154.99, it's also much cheaper than [[prodid:3427]], which costs $345. If you don't have the latest and greatest PC, however, you'll have to live with sluggish performance, especially in editing.

Acoustica CD/DVD Label Maker worked perfectly in our tests. We especially liked the direct import of iTunes playlists for printing and the support for Lightscribe. Other than the lack of a template for sleeves, Acoustica CD/DVD Label Printer is a top-notch labelling design tool.

The individual applications can each be considered as class-leading, but together they make an extremely compelling whole that easily justifies the cost of the upgrade.

Lightroom is a sophisticated, intelligent application, and I'd recommend it to professional photographers. I just wish its features were included in other Adobe apps; I'm a little annoyed that it's an extra expense.

Though Ultra is not a unique selling point for the CS3 suites, it offers quick integration with Premiere and After Effects, it's simple to use and so is definitely worth experimenting with. It would be handy for knocking out a quick pop promo or business presentation, though it probably wouldn't fit a quality broadcast setup.

The combination of 17 professional photo-editing tools, 2GB online storage and the ability to publish pictures straight to Facebook makes Photoshop Express an excellent piece of software. The fact it's free is just the icing on the cake.

With subtle and overt improvements, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.0 remains the program to beat for image processing and organisation. The new creative editing tools included with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.0 would alone make it a must-have upgrade.
