Symantec's exceedingly powerful disk-imaging and backup program has a few usability annoyances.

The Yamicsoft Windows 7 Manager is a useful tool and there is a free trial, but you'll most likely only want to pay for Windows 7 Manager if you want to do a great deal of customisation.

Users of Stuffit 2009 will probably find the upgrade to Stuffit Deluxe 2010 worthwhile, and the SmartSend feature is likely to be useful in many circumstances. It's just not as useful as it could be or perhaps will be, with a little more development time.

Paragon Backup and Recovery 10 Suite offers a robust feature set and an impressive array of advanced features. Where it really shines is in features such as the ability to work with virtual hard drives, as well as create WinPE bootable rescue media.

BounceBack Essentials combines the strengths of imaging, file-based backup, and RAID mirroring, and sidesteps most of the disadvantages of these other methods.

Although Easeus Todo Backup isn't the best imaging/backup program out there, it has by far the best price - free. Macrium Reflect also comes in a free version, but doesn't mount images. Todo Backup works well and offers everything most users need. What's not to like?

Perfgraph works much like other free programs of its type. It has a more compact interface than most, so for those who like to save screen real estate, this system monitor is a solid bet.

Blaze could really light things up for a power user willing to dig in and teach it a few tricks, and its ability to create macros in particular is nice and smooth. Less technical users might prefer Enso Launcher, which uses simple natural language commands, but can't learn multi-step macros like Blaze.

Acronis True Image Home 2010 is the first upgrade to True Image we've seen in a while that didn't have "must maintain revenue stream" tattooed all over it. There may still be a few bugs we haven't spotted yet in this new version, but so far it has proved stable, as well as a most satisfying improvement. A 30-day trial on the company's website lets you take a pain-free look-see at Acronis True Image Home 2010.

We were impressed with Insofta Document Backup, although the lack of plain-file backup may render it less than a perfect fit for some.

My guess is that during a normal workday, Core Tuner's performance benefits will never make up for the resources and CPU cycles utilised by the program sitting in the system tray.

"Handy" sums up MyCopernic ON THE GO. It's a useful way to find and access files remotely, but we'd rather use a full-fledged remote access service - particularly given that a product that costs $12.94. LogMeIn, for example, offers a free service for controlling a computer remotely; and since you can view your desktop as if you were sitting in front of it, you can do a lot more than just search for file.
