Camcorder gift guide for Mother’s Day

We've rounded up camcorders for every type of mum: from technophobes to soccer moms

The videophile mum: Canon Legria HFS11 (RRP: $2099)

Canon has always been the queen of the castle when it comes to camcorder image quality, and the Canon Legria HFS11 is easily one of the best of the bunch. If your mum knows her way around a camcorder and is keen to capture lifelike footage, this model is definitely worth the extra dosh. Equipped with an 8.1-megapixel 1/2.6in CMOS sensor, the Canon HFS11 produces some of the best video quality we’ve seen.

We were particularly impressed by the clarity of our footage, which was sharp and well detailed. It also performed well in our low-light tests, with the noise levels failing to obstruct picture clarity. The HFS11 uses SD/SDHC memory cards for added storage convenience. Videophile mums — accept no substitute!

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
