In pictures: Gateway's fashion-forward notebooks

We take a look at the new Gateway notebooks, which will hit Australia on 15 August

EC Series

Gateway's ultraportable notebook — the 13.3in EC Series — is well priced and doesn’t skimp on power. Starting at $1399, you're guaranteed HDMI and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics with 512MB of dedicated DDR3 memory. From there, though, options become somewhat wider; you can configure the EC Series laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU up to the SU9400 (clocked at 1.4GHz), along with 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 320GB hard drive. Considering how expensive similarly attractive Sony VAIO ultraportables are, we are somewhat surprised at the price.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
