Pick up some good gadgets with great prices!

Acer Aspire 5740 (AS5740-332G50MN)

Price: $847

New Intel Core i3 and Core i5 CPUs are finding their way into many sub-$1000 laptops, which is good news for students (and pretty much anyone) who needs good speed, but can't afford to spend too much. The Good Guys currently have a 15.6in Acer Aspire 5740 notebook (AS5740-332G50MN) for $847, and has an Intel Core i3-330 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive and a DVD burner, and it runs Windows 7. Sure, it's a little big at 15.6in, so you might not be able to comfortably carry it to and from home, but it represents great value.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
