Do Some Research

You can learn a lot about photography by reading. Among the online sources I recommend, aside from my [[xref:http://www.pcworld.com/blogs/id,6/digital_focus.html|Digital Focus blog|Digital Focus blog]], are [[xref:http://www.nyip.com/|The New York Institute of Photography|The New York Institute of Photography]], [[xref:http://www.5min.com/Category/Arts/Photography|5minArts|5minArts]], [[xref:http://photo.net/|Photo.net|Photo.net]], [[xref:http://www.geofflawrence.com/photography_tutorials.htm|Geoff Lawrence's Photography Tutorials|Geoff Lawrence's Photography Tutorials]], and [[xref:http://tutorialoutpost.com/tutorials/photoshop/photo-editing/|Tutorialoutpost|Tutorialoutpost]].

Need some fun photo projects to get you energized? Check out [[xref:http://photojojo.com/|Photojojo|Photojojo]], which is packed with tips and tricks, plus interesting ideas for tantalizing photo projects.

I love books, too. If you've already digested my own book, [[xref:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0071495800/davejohnsonswebsA/|How to Do Everything with Your Digital Camera|How to Do Everything with Your Digital Camera]], you might also want to check out [[xref:http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Photography-Companion-Derrick-Story/dp/0596517661/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267317384&sr=1-1|The Digital Photography Companion|The Digital Photography Companion]], [[xref:http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Photography-Masterclass-Tom-Ang/dp/0756636728/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267317423&sr=1-1|Digital Photography Masterclass|Digital Photography Masterclass]], and [[xref:http://www.amazon.com/Practical-Artistry-Exposure-Digital-Photographers/dp/0596529880/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267317447&sr=1-1|Light & Exposure for Digital Photographers|Light & Exposure for Digital Photographers]].

Finally, I suggest that you scan bookstore shelves for books that focus on the particular kind of photography you're interested in--sports, portraits, nature, or whatever it may be. You can learn a lot by seeing how the photographer captured the images you see in the book.
