This is what Australia's first mobile phone looked like

Telstra is today celebrating 25 years since it launched Australia's first hand-held mobile phone, the Walkabout TM.

The other phones launched on the same day as the Walkabout were the Philips 'TravellerTM' FM9000 which was the size of a shoebox, cost $4500 and came in both a portable and in-car version, and the Mitsubishi 'AttacheTM', a car-mounted phone that could be carried around outside the vehicle and cost almost $3800.
