In Pictures: She's gonna blow! 10 Star Trek technologies that are almost here

Warp drives, teleporters, helpful holograms - the new frontier is a lot closer than you might think

Star Trek tech No. 10: Friendly androids Perhaps the single greatest challenge in all of the Trekverse is creating a sentient android like the Next Generation's Lieutenant Commander Data. Even in the 24th century there was only one of him (well, two if you count his emotionally unstable twin, Lore). Somewhat less precocious cybernetic bipeds have been around for more than a decade, starting with Honda's walking, dancing Asimo (pictured). The first generation of robotic helpers has already been deployed to provide companionship for the elderly and infirm, as well as perform tasks too dangerous for humans. Let's just hope nobody develops an emotion chip. That could turn ugly fast.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
