The Amazon outage aftermath Fallout: An online retailer like Amazon obviously depends on, you know, being online in order to do business. Looking at the company's previous quarterly earnings and doing a little fancy math, some industry-watchers estimated the site could have potentially suffered close to $5 million in missed revenue for that single hour of offline time.

Fix: Amazon stayed quiet on what it had to do to get its business back up in proper order, noting only that the issue affected just the home page -- not internal pages -- and had no impact on its AWS cloud hosting operation.
