Broadband Speed Test

About Broadband Speed Test

What is Broadband Speed Test testing?

Broadband Speed Test performs three key measurements used to determine the overall quality and performance of your Internet connection.
Download Speed
The speed at which data is sent from the Internet to your computer.
Upload Speed
The speed at which data is sent from your computer to the Internet.
Ping (Latency)
The time it takes in milliseconds for a small piece of data to be sent from your computer to the Internet and back.

Theoretical Maximum Speeds

The advertised speed seen on many broadband deals is actually the theoretical maximum. We have listed the theoretical maximum speeds below for your reference. The Broadband Speed Test result may vary due to a variety of factors including:
  • line quality
  • distance from the exchange (ADSL/ADSL2+)
  • quality of the wiring
  • your modem settings
  • network congestion

Wow!

I can't believe how slow the office connection is. I barely got 699kbps download speed. Upload is a little better at 1522kbps.

Slow as a snail?

Dear WOW.

Maybe you should talk to your higher ups about improving your Internet connection at work? Maybe if you send them this speed test, they'll upgrade it. Or better yet get them to do the test too!

Amanda

Speed

I got 6.502 Mbps which isn't bad for ADSL 1.

Chart units not same as speed test units!

Can't you make them the same? I'm never sure if I should devide by 1000 or by 1024. I'm not sure how many small 'k's are in a big 'K', never mind the big 'M's!

Nelvana

Hi Nelvana, Both the chart

Hi Nelvana,

Both the chart and the test itself measures speed in "bits" (small b) rather than "bytes," (large B) as this is how ISPs measure speed. There are 8 bits to the byte, so if you're downloading at 19, 000 kilobits per second (Kbps), you're in fact downloading 2, 375 kilobytes (KBps) or 2.32 megabytes (MBps).

Hope this helps

gprs Optus

Down load speed 45kbps
Upload speed 17kbps
Connect at 53.6
Optus @ Geelong I would be better off using a hand signal.

does telstra suck?

1331 download and 212 upload adsl2 on 1500 plan.
for the price my son says TPG flogs them

Wireless 3 Mobile BB

I got this and it is absolute rubbish, most times its 50 to 600 kbps, and around once a week its out for several hours at a time, I got screen shots showing simultaneously that I dont have enough data allowance to connect, and also that I have heaps of credit available (perpaid). I have absolutely no help from this company, I need to change but unfortunately just cant yet. Compared side by side with Optus mobile BB, Optus is 10 times +++ faster consistently.
