Canon's entry-level A3 photo printer delivers great output but is expensive to run
Amateur shutterbugs will find plenty to like with the Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II inkjet photo printer, including great output, A3+ media support and dye-based consumables for printing on glossy media. Unfortunately, the lack of colour configuration options and an inability to use some heavy stock will deter professionals.
PIXMA users will soon be able to print photos directly from their iPhone
Canon Australia today announced an iPhone app that will allow users to print photos directly from the smartphone. The Easy Photo-Print App is already available in the US, UK and Canada, and can be downloaded for free from the Australian iTunes Store from tomorrow.
A standard-definition Canon camcorder that uses flash memory for recording and comes with valuable extras
The Canon FS200 is a flash memory-based camcorder that records standard-definition video to SD/SDHC memory cards.
An advanced digital camera that's suitable for users who can't afford a D-SLR
The Canon PowerShot G11 is an advanced compact camera you can turn to if you don’t want to buy a digital SLR. Despite its small size, it has a lot of SLR-like features, such as the ability to change exposure settings on the fly. Of course you can’t swap out lenses nor manually zoom and focus the way you can with an SLR.
A midrange flash memory-based camcorder with good image quality and features
The Canon Legria HF21 is a Full HD flash memory–based camcorder aimed primarily at casual users. With an RRP of $1699, the Legria HF21 is significantly cheaper than Canon’s high-end efforts yet still hovers above the entry-level mark. Its video performance is acceptable for the asking price, with an impressive array of manual modes and consumer-friendly features. In short, it’s a good, solid camcorder that does the basics well.
An inexpensive inkjet multifunction with decent photo print quality
Canon's entry-level PIXMA MP490 inkjet multifunction lacks the small luxuries of its more expensive counterparts, like an Easy Scroll Wheel, PictBridge USB port and CD/DVD printing. For the price, however, we can't complain; as a basic printer, scanner and copier, the PIXMA MP490 will do the job well.
A feature-light multifunction printer from Canon that delivers great quality printouts
Canon's PIXMA MP560 is a simple inkjet multifunction that offers sufficient print quality for both documents and family photos. USB and Wi-Fi connectivity make it easy to connect, but it won't print to CDs and DVDs like the HP Photosmart C5380.
A Canon D-SLR built for speed -- perfect for action photography
Canon's EOS 7D digital SLR is designed for users who want fast shooting performance. That means sports photographers, nature photographers, and basically anyone who needs to freeze-frame a fast-moving subject. It has a crisp-sounding shutter, a sturdily built (and heavy at 900g) stainless steel and polycarbonate body, and all of its settings can be controlled via dedicated buttons or button/dial combinations.
We look at five A3 printers designed for small offices
Printer manufacturers have offered consumer A3+ printers for some time, but these have traditionally been targeted at photographers. Models like Epson's Stylus Photo R2880 provide fantastic print quality for high resolution photos and design material, but they use pigment-based inks. They also lack features like document scaling and network printing, which are important for many offices.
Canon's A3 inkjet printer is big and noisy but produces vibrant photos and documents
Canon's PIXMA iX7000 is the company's second business-focussed A3 inkjet printer, and it's one of the most expensive on the market. It is big, slow and noisy but offers automatic duplex and network connectivity, and it produces great quality A4 and A3 output.
Canon's hero multifunction gains Ethernet, Wi-Fi and a bigger LCD
Canon's PIXMA MP640 inkjet multifunction improves on its predecessor -- the PIXMA MP630 -- by adding network connectivity, USB flash drive support and a bigger LCD display. This inkjet multifunction retains the same excellent features, ease of use and great print quality of the MP630 -- and the same slow print speed.
Sure they may produce pretty pictures, but some printers have interfaces that seem designed to make you want to tear your hair out
Your printer might have the fastest print speeds, most connections and best print quality, but if it isn't easy to use, it may well end up out the window in frustration. Sometimes an overabundance of buttons, wheels and confusing menus can often be the biggest problem with a printer; we know, we've been frustrated once too often ourselves. So which printer gives you the most control over its functions -- and which is easiest to use?
