  • LEGO Rock Band 16/11/2009 14:05:00

The Rock Band franchise has been blessed with a consistent amount of quality thus far
Crossovers in entertainment media aren't anything new. If there was money to be made and merchandise to sell, you could bet your Saturday morning that the Jetsons would find their way into a Flintstones plot before you could say "continuity error." Now, the Traveler's Tales line of LEGO games have taken an interesting approach to the tried-and-true intercompany crossover conundrum: take an iconic pop culture franchise (so far so good) and then throw in an iconic... toy... block... franchise?
  • Modded Xbox 360s jailbroken with 'un-ban' hack? 14/11/2009 06:20:00

Modded Xbox 360s recently banned from Xbox LIVE by Microsoft may 'get out of jail free' with the help of a new firmware hack.
A hacker eager to reconnect modded Xbox 360s banned by Microsoft in recent days may be on the verge of releasing a workaround.
  • Xbox 360 gears up for 1080p video on demand, Twitter and Facebook access 13/11/2009 16:25:00

100 titles set for 17 November launch, priced from $4
The Xbox 360 is set to get a home entertainment revamp next week that will help it compete with Sony's PlayStation 3.
  • Report: 1 million Xbox Live members banned for piracy 13/11/2009 09:44:00

Banned consoles are unable to engage in online gameplay over Xbox Live and also have their warranties revoked
Information Week released a story earlier today revealing that Microsoft has banned around 1 million Xbox Live members the company believes are playing pirated games via modified hardware.
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 11/11/2009 09:30:00

The math is simple: n00b hand-holding plus angry 'l33t' players equals a lot of bitching and moaning
The first rule of my own personal reviews philosophy is "Remain objective" but that's almost impossible when dealing with a franchise that's as critically and financially successful as Call of Duty. I've been a fan of the series since its inception (though I hated Call of Duty 3 as much as you did) so I couldn't help but have high expectations for Modern Warfare 2, the sequel to the obscenely successful Modern Warfare. My attempts to remain objective weren't helped by the fact that, instead of being sent a review build, as is usually the case, I was offered a trip down to Infinity Ward's offices for a two-day Modern Warfare 2 marathon.
  • Hands on: James Cameron's Avatar: The Game 05/11/2009 11:50:00

We put James Cameron's 3D Avatar game through its paces...
“I don’t want anything associated with Avatar to suck.” These were the words used by award-winning filmmaker James Cameron at Comic-Con '09 to vindicate Avatar: The Game.
  • MagnaCarta 2 04/11/2009 13:30:00

MagnaCarta 2 boasts incredible art design, with beautifully conceived settings and eye-candy character designs by Korean artist Hyung-Tae Kim
As much as Japanese RPGs get flack for their regurgitation of similar themes and design elements, there's an underlying appeal to the genre that continues to draw ardent fans. MagnaCarta 2, despite its Korean origin, is very Japanese in style. And while it re-uses many of the genre's familiar tropes, they're all utilised well -- which makes all the difference.
  • Teaser trailer for Alice sequel released, game due 2011 03/11/2009 09:15:00

According to EA's info site, the game is listed as a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC release
I don't get to play too many PC games--my console roots can't handle the mouse-keyboard setup and my family's computers were often incapable of playing anything more graphically intensive than solitaire--but I'm glad I fired up my Microsoft Sidewinder to play American McGee's Alice nine years ago.
  • Need for Speed: SHIFT 29/10/2009 16:10:00

Most of my Need for Speed memories involve fast and furious street races, police chases in an open world and laughably lame stories.
Obviously, simulation racing isn't the most organic evolution for the series. Sure, ProStreet had a dose of realism injected into it, but it wavered indecisively between circuit sim and arcade racer. So it's appropriate that the latest NFS title is called SHIFT because it's obviously trying to "shift" the franchise in a new direction.
  • Bass Pro Shops: The Strike 29/10/2009 16:01:00

Fishing, like hunting, is one of those subgenres of sports games that really hasn't established itself as something populated with games that match the level of quality and polish of the Maddens of gaming
Resident angler Patrick Shaw loves the sport of fishing and he may have just found a virtual simulation that's good enough to keep him off the lakes for good. Backed by the Bass Pro Shops name, The Strike is a well executed fishing title that should please amateur anglers and professional fisherman alike.
  • NBA Live 10 29/10/2009 16:00:00

Live 10 is without question the best looking game of the series to date
EA's NBA Live is back again this year trying to dig itself out of a hole it has been mired in since the birth of the Dreamcast ten years ago. For those keeping score at home, Live has been trying to gain our attention with stiff player animations, lousy AI and poor play mechanics (seriously? I need two shoot buttons?) for a decade.
  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes 29/10/2009 14:55:00

Republic Heroes is very much a game of two not entirely equal halves: you have the Jedi levels which should be satisfying but aren't, and the Clone Trooper levels which are entertaining but are too few in number and too short in length
The Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated TV show has proven to be a huge hit since it debuted last year. Despite the erratic level of quality when it came to the individual episodes in season one, it has been a massive ratings success, particularly for boys aged six to eleven. There was little doubt that they'd attempt to cash-in on the popularity of the franchise but it's disappointing to see how little effort was put into making Republic Heroes actually enjoyable.
  • Borderlands 22/10/2009 16:35:00

Borderlands is a first-person shooter mashed with a role-playing game, and it aces both genres without sacrificing anything on either end
Let's face it: the apocalypse has been done to death. Nowadays, everyone and their neighbor has some futuristic tale to tell, but this innovative title from 2K Games somehow manages to breathe some new life into a somewhat tired genre.
  • Brutal Legend 19/10/2009 13:40:00

Brutal Legend is an utterly unique game, one that features the astonishing and imaginative environments that Double Fine and head honcho Tim Schaefer have become known for
While Tim Schafer's games have earned him a ton of cred with critics and diehard fans, it hasn't always translated into mainstream commerical success (seriously, why didn't you guys buy Psychonauts? It was freaking awesome and should have sold a bajillion copies!). But we're pretty sure Brutal Legend will get him the financial success, along with the usual critical praise, that he richly deserves because even though it suffers from a lacklustre presentation and some quirky bugs, it's still a vintage Schafer game: unique, hilarious and a whole lot of fun to play.
