Virgin Mobile's Wi-Fi Modem works just as well as a regular USB modem, but adds the convenience of a wireless connection for up to three computers. The flaky Optus network may be an issue for some, but this compact unit is cordless, rechargeable and hugely convenient.

With a competitive initial outlay cost, prepaid billing and the Next G network's superior speed and coverage, Telstra's Turbo USB modem is a good package overall. It's predictably pricier than the competition, though, and the 30-day recharge expiry is a downside.

The Aspire One ZG8 with an integrated Next G module is one of the best netbooks on the market. The integrated 3G module means there are no dongles hanging off it, and the overall build quality and style of the netbook is superb. We recommend it for anyone who wants a small laptop to get online anywhere and anytime.

If you're a Firefox user, the upgrade to Mozilla Firefox 3.5 is a no-brainer. Browsing the web is significantly faster, the ability to re-open previously closed tabs and windows is a major improvement, and as for PrivateBrowsing... we won't delve into your personal life, but if you've got a need to keep some of your browsing a secret, you'll want this feature.

Telstra's Pre-Paid Wireless Broadband package promises superior coverage with no bills or contracts and it delivers excellent service. You pay extra and the USB modem is a little chunky, but this is a reliable mobile broadband solution. It's just a shame recharges have a 30-day expiry.

Safari 4 has come out of its short beta period to blossom as a remarkably attractive and well featured modern web browser. For Windows users, Safari has previously been something of an also-ran behind Firefox and IE, but with Safari 4, the browser could catch up on XP to Windows 7 systems too. Safari 4 is extremely fast in its page rendering thanks to the refined WebKit engine, and offers some genuinely useful user interface elements which make finding sites quicker and browsing a more comfortable experience.

Though Optus' 3G network is plagued by reliability and speed issues, we found the E1762 USB modem to be reasonably fast. It provides a better connection than other Optus mobile broadband devices we have reviewed.

The Fujitsu LifeBook P8020 (3.5G) notebook is a good looking, lightweight and feature-rich laptop that is best suited to users who work frequently while travelling. At $3999, it's slightly better value than the Toshiba Portege R600, but we think the Fujitsu would be improved by a solid state drive and wider keys.

Its technical specifications suggest the Internet Key E160 is an inferior modem to 3 Mobile's E180 modem. But in practice its throughput speeds and Next G compatibility make for a great wireless broadband modem.
