Those in the market for a colour laser probably won’t drop their sights to the Oki C110, but as an alternative to an inkjet it makes an incredible amount of sense. Fast and capable of high-quality print that comfortably outclasses almost all inkjets, it's excellent for text work. And the Oki C110's colour output is, while a bit slow, quite good enough for most tasks. Those who do lots of photo printing might want to look elsewhere, but for the general purpose user who can look past the C110’s lack of physical flair, this is an excellent model.

Kyocera Mita's FS-C5300DN makes high-volume color printing affordable — and it pumps the pages out fast. Assuming you can do better than the list price, this printer would work well in a mainstream business office with basic color needs.

Brother's MFC-8890DW monochrome laser multifunction produces great quality documents at a quick pace, and it has wireless connectivity. We weren't impressed by its cluttered control panel and oversimplified Web interface, however.

The Canon Pixma IP4700 really impressed us. It is a good quality inkjet printer that produces excellent results in a short amount of time. We also liked the fact that it was exceptionally quiet. If excellent prints are what you need and you aren’t in the market for either copying or scanning features, this is the ideal printer.

Samsung's SCX-5835FN isn't as affordable as other monochrome laser multifunctions, but it provides an internal hard drive and inexpensive consumables to compensate.

The Canon Selphy CP780 is a cheap and nearly idiot-proof snapshot printer. We just wish it was faster and had a lower cost per print.

The Lexmark E460dn is well designed for small workgroups. It's fast enough to compete with more-expensive monochrome lasers, and it generates pages with first-rate print quality.

Despite slow print speeds, Brother's MFC-6890CDW multifunction printer provides quality A3 prints backed by a comprehensive feature set. It won't replace a dedicated photo printer, but can produce in-house marketing materials with good results.
