PC World leads the charge

PC World leads the charge as domestic sales of PC monthly magazines rose for the first time since 2000 in the most recent audit of paid circulation conducted by the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC).

The audit of sales for the six months from January to June showed that Australians bought 1.24 per cent more PC monthly magazines, ending a decline that began in 2001.

PC World was responsible for most of the improvement, reporting 3121 more copies per month than in the previous audit. This 6.5 per cent gain more than offset APC's decline of 1171 copies per month. PC User was up slightly, selling 42 more copies per month.

"PC World has continued to lead the PC magazine market with new editorial initiatives, as well as providing more in-depth reviews from its Test Centre over the last six months," said Amanda Conroy, Editor.

"We hit the mark, meeting our readers' needs with editorial features such as the PC buyers' guide, special reports on digital video, spam, and security, as well as a two-part supplement on Building Your Own PC."

Results for IT publications in the January - June 2003 ABC audit, representing average net paid sales per issue, are:

PC World has continued to see consistent support from IT advertisers and is consistently recognised as the number one technology title in Australia when it comes to advertising pages.

The latest AC Nielsen AdEx reports show that PC World has carried more advertising than any other monthly PC magazine over the past six months. PC World received a total market share of 33.4 per cent against the monthly PC titles. PC World carried 507 ads over the audit period, which was 130 pages more advertising support than its nearest competitor, APC, in the January - June period.

"IT advertisers are under pressure to generate a return on their advertising investment in this competitive PC market," said Matt Rigney, National Sales and Advertising Manager for PC World. "PC World's dominant market share indicates that our clients are pleased with the results they receive from PC World every month",
