SkyNetGlobal and BigAir Form Strategic Relationship

 • 28 September, 2004 14:41

Sydney September 27 2004: SkyNetGlobal Limited (ASX: SKG) and BigAir Australia Pty Ltd today announced that the two companies have joined forces to provide Australia’s most advanced broadband service to the residential market. As part of the strategic relationship SkyNetGlobal’s W Home high-rise network will utilise BigAir’s wireless data facilities where traditional DSL supply is not available.

"BigAir will contribute enormously to the unique service already on offer from W Home, as the company has engineered and rolled out an independent network using carrier-grade high speed wireless equipment,” said Jonathan Soon, CEO of SkyNetGlobal.

BigAir, Australia’s leading wireless last mile service provider, which launched in Sydney in March this year, bypasses the ageing copper network used by ADSL services. This enables BigAir to offer a totally unique broadband experience to consumers with complete control over the speed, quality and service.

“This strategic relationship orchestrates delivery of an enhanced wireless network service for SkyNetGlobal’s W Home customers because BigAir offers speeds of up to 10 Mbps at many locations where broadband internet supply is not available”, Mr Soon added.

Jason Ashton, joint Managing Director, BigAir said that the strategic relationship between SkyNetGlobal and BigAir would offer consumers greater choice, better reliability and a cost effective upgrade path to more advanced broadband applications that both companies were planning to offer.

“W Home gives residents access to an exciting and flexible communications package,” he said. “With the addition of BigAir’s advanced wireless last mile network offering speeds of 10 Mbps and beyond, the BigAir-powered W Home solution has raised the bar for home broadband in Australia.”

Customers can expect to see immediate benefits of this strategic relationship. This new alliance will also create unique opportunities to extend the performance of the wireless network in the greater Sydney metropolitan area. Through these and future initiatives, SkyNetGlobal and BigAir will together provide their customers with a new class of wireless data, with better reliability and performance.

The BigAir-powered W Home service will be operational in 10 large apartment (MDU) buildings by the end of September.
