VERITAS Unveils Key Features of VERITAS i3 7.0 Application Performance Management Software

Next-generation software will combine performance and availability management through integration with other key VERITAS solutions

LAS VEGAS – VERITAS VISION™ 2004 – May 6, 2004 – VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTSE) today announced the roadmap for the next generation of its VERITAS i3™ suite of application performance management software. VERITAS i3 7.0 will feature integration with other VERITAS solutions to provide deeper file system, volume management and storage metrics to measure the time its takes transactions to traverse the IT infrastructure. In addition, integration with VERITAS Cluster Server will enable a comprehensive application performance and availability solution to better manage application service levels. The beta release of VERITAS i3 7.0 is scheduled for June and more new features will be announced when the software is generally available in Q4 2004.

“VERITAS i3 7.0 will strengthen our utility computing offerings by delivering deeper integration among the availability, performance and automation segments of VERITAS’ utility computing strategy,” said Mark Bregman, executive vice president, product operations, VERITAS Software. “Our goal is to enable seamless management of the complete application, from end-user to storage.”

The integration of VERITAS i3 7.0 software with other key VERITAS utility computing technologies – VERITAS Storage Foundation™, VERITAS Cluster Server, and VERITAS Volume Manager software – will benefit customers in two complementary ways. First, integrating deep file system and volume management metrics into the capabilities of VERITAS i3 software provides an unprecedented level of insight into user-to-storage performance management. Second, integrating application failure alerts from VERITAS Cluster Server as an input to VERITAS i3 provides a comprehensive performance and availability solution to better manage application service levels.

In addition, VERITAS i3 7.0 software will feature more granular correlation capability for each individual application transaction from client to storage. This greater visibility into application performance and usage patterns can then be used to support business efficiencies through enhanced management of asset utilization, application usage and cost allocation.

Other new features of VERITAS i3 7.0 will include the ability for users to track an unlimited number of customer-defined service level agreement metrics and a streamlined install process for faster deployment.

Application Performance Management and Utility Computing
Utility computing is a computing model that delivers IT as a measurable service, aligned with business needs and capable of adapting to changing demands. Application performance is one of the key building blocks of VERITAS’ strategy to enable utility computing. Almost every business today relies on its information system, and poorly performing systems result in poorly performing organizations and poor customer perception of these organizations. Recognizing this, businesses are moving beyond traditional availability initiatives that focus only on application uptime, and are implementing programs that also address system uptime and user response time.

About VERITAS Software
