Network Appliance is the Leader in iSCSI and Network-Attached Storage Markets

 • 08 March, 2005 09:20

Continues growth in SAN and Overall Networked Storage Markets

Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP) has announced that it has maintained its position as market leader in both the network-attached storage (NAS) and iSCSI storage markets for calendar year 2004 (CY2004). According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker Q4 2004, NetApp demonstrated continued leadership in its core NAS market, with a 36.9 per cent revenue share and maintained its strong lead in the iSCSI storage market, with a 43 per cent revenue share for CY2004. In addition, NetApp remained the leader in the IP storage market (NAS and iSCSI), posting a 37.3 per cent market share in CY2004.

Also according to IDC, the company grew revenue in the open systems networked storage market, with 29.7 per cent year-over-year (Q4 2003 to Q4 2004) growth, versus overall market growth of 11.6 per cent. NetApp grew revenue in the open SAN market at 98.9 per cent, versus the market growth of 9.2 per cent, year over year (fourth quarter 2003 to fourth quarter 2004).

“IDC’s market share figures confirm that our approach to solving customers’ storage needs is winning in the marketplace. The results indicate that NetApp is taking share from our competitors and is the fastest growing storage vendor tracked by IDC,” said Patrick Rogers, Vice President of Products and Partners at Network Appliance. “Our position in the NAS market continues to strengthen, but even more significantly, NetApp revenue is growing most quickly in SAN deployments via our Fibre Channel and iSCSI solutions. We are particularly pleased with our progress in deploying scalable, unified storage solutions for global Fortune 1000 accounts.”

The numbers confirm that the NetApp pioneering vision to deliver the world’s first unified storage solution and embrace the iSCSI protocol continues to pay off in customer adoption. The flexibility of a single architecture and the choice of iSCSI, NAS, or SAN environments provide unmatched value to NetApp customers and the IDC results demonstrate that customers continue to turn to NetApp for their storage consolidation, data protection, information lifecycle management, regulatory compliance and business continuance needs.
