PC Brain Transplant from Thin Systems

 • 07 September, 2004 10:49

Aging PC networks can now receive a brain transplant transforming them into fully functional thin client workstations to run Citrix, Microsoft Windows Terminal server, Linux and web-browsing or even all at the same time, according to Mr Michael Crocombe, Managing Director of Thin Systems.

“The Asterisk PC Reviver, distributed exclusively in Australia by Thin Systems, simply replaces the PC hard drive converting the machine into a high performance thin client terminal,” said Mr Crocombe.

“The innovative technology contains the necessary smarts to detect and load device drivers for most PC hardware, network cards, VGA controllers and monitors,” he said.

“What system administrators gain in this transition is a low cost move to thin client technology. The retained asset value in the PC’s is not junked which will please the CFO, and neither do you have to buy new thin client terminals which will, of course, appeal to the CEO.

“With an RRP of $210 including GST, the PC Reviver represents affordable technology that can extend the life of a PC, and when the PC ‘dies’, you can simply plug the PC Reviver into its replacement and reuse the PC Reviver technology again…allowing the maximum benefit for the initial investment,” he said.

Additional user pluses include freedom to choose the desktop operating system without having to reinstall the PC, elimination of the need for extra virus protection on the PC, and improved boot time.

“This is brilliant new New Zealand technology with broad appeal in the sector of SME’s looking to take advantage of a switch to thin-client computing. The low-cost nature and asset protection and extension solution is unique,” Mr Crocombe explained. “We are quickly establishing the PC Reviver in the local market on the back of these attributes.”
