VERITAS Indepth software enables rapid optimization of applications running on SQL

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Nov. 20, 2003 – VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the leading storage software provider, today announced that Microsoft Technology Centers use VERITAS Indepth™ software to help customers achieve optimal performance of enterprise applications running on Microsoft SQL Server databases.

“Our customers engage Microsoft Technology Centers to design and prove their applications so they work flawlessly when deployed,” said Gordon Mangione, vice president of SQL Server at Microsoft. “VERITAS Indepth for SQL Server has proven to be a highly effective solution to properly identify any existing issues and provide solutions to tune the platform and applications for optimal performance.”

Jointly engineered with Microsoft, VERITAS Indepth for SQL Server helps identify the most complex application performance management issues on SQL Server databases. It collects actionable metrics from heavily loaded environments -- adding little to no overhead -- providing visibility into current and historical application behavior. Indepth for SQL Server also presents a view of the entire application and quickly identifies performance bottlenecks, helping an application manager make objective and quantifiable tuning decisions to maximize application up-time thereby improving business results.

Microsoft Solution Partner Unisys Corporation, a global information technology services and solutions company, leverages VERITAS Indepth for SQL Server for customer testing and benchmarking of its high-end ES7000 servers.

“Before we implemented VERITAS Indepth for SQL Server, we would use a variety of manual techniques to benchmark applications and identify bottlenecks, which could take weeks or months to accomplish,” said Jim Wright, senior architect of Unisys Technology Consulting Services. “VERITAS Indepth for SQL Server allows us to do in minutes what previously took hours. More importantly, well-tuned applications allow our customers to reduce total cost of ownership and increase return on their investment in our high-end ES7000 servers.”

“Microsoft’s successful deployment of VERITAS Indepth for SQL Server in their customer prototyping activities further validates the value of our product for optimizing SQL Server applications for our mutual customers,” said Kris Hagerman, executive vice president of strategic operations, VERITAS. “We’re pleased to expand our close relationship with Microsoft beyond our data protection solutions to include the leading application performance management and optimization technologies we acquired with Precise.”
