OzEmail to launch wireless broadband in new year

Following the commercial release of Personal Broadband's wholesale iBurst wireless broadband product this week, ISP OzEmail has revealed it is putting the finishing touches on its own iBurst service, with plans to launch a product in the new year.

OzEmail managing director Trevor Duff said OzEmail is now in the final stages of commercial negotiation and testing of iBurst's services.

"We plan to roll out OzEmail Wireless early in the new year, but first we must be certain it's managed and supported as well as other OzEmail products from day one," he said.

OzEmail has been closely involved with the iBurst development consortium since its launch in Australia in June 2002 and participated in the phase one roll-out of the service earlier this year.

"We have assisted in planning the integration of the iBurst network and provided direction on appropriate commercial service provision including customer care delivery and the development of a consumer-centric end-user experience," Duff said.

Despite this involvement however, OzEmail may also "investigate other wireless alternatives" which are suitable to its customer base, he said.

"OzEmail's wireless service will appeal to roaming customers as well as customers that have previously been unable to get a broadband connection in their geographical area. Wireless services will assist greatly in fulfilling our objective of providing an affordable range of broadband options to a wider section of the community."

Duff said OzEmail will be setting up an online registry for customers wishing to register their interest to purchase the iBurst product shortly.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
