• 22 October, 2003 14:29

Below is a US release that crossed the wires overnight and has been sent to you as an FYI.

EMC Proven Solution Delivers Best Practices for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003; EMC and LEGATO Showcase Integrated Information Management Solutions

NEW YORK - October 22, 2003 -EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage, today announced support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, Microsoft’s messaging and collaboration platform, at the Microsoft Office System global launch event. EMC unveiled new best practices, developed with Microsoft, that help companies better manage their Exchange Server 2003 information throughout its lifecycle.

Also at the launch, EMC and its new software division LEGATO are showcasing integrated information management solutions that deliver backup and recovery, archiving, records management and compliance functionality to better manage Exchange Server 2003 data. EMC, which today completed its acquisition of LEGATO, has integrated its products with LEGATO’s software solutions for information protection, automated availability and messaging management with EMC automated networked storage systems and software, providing Microsoft customers with a leading information management and protection solution.

“The Microsoft Office System provides customers with powerful business tools with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003,” said Kevin McCuistion, director of Exchange marketing at Microsoft Corp. “EMC’s networked storage systems and software can help customers to achieve their business goals.”

To consolidate Exchange infrastructures and migrate from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange Server 2003, EMC worked with Microsoft to develop an EMC Proven Solution that provides Exchange Server 2003 customers a build-as-you-grow infrastructure that starts with a base storage package. Once Exchange Server 2003 is consolidated onto a storage area network (SAN), customers can easily deploy EMC and LEGATO software for high-availability and improved business continuity. This gives customers the ability to better manage information throughout its lifecycle, including long-term archiving for regulatory requirements.

EMC has worked with Microsoft to enhance capabilities that utilise Exchange Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 for Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to ensure tight integration. EMC CLARiiON and Symmetrix Integration Modules for Exchange, which integrate EMC’s industry leading replication technology with Microsoft’s development of VSS, are a key component of the solution. The EMC Proven Solution enables customers to:
§ Reduce backup and recovery times from hours to minutes
§ Reduce complexity of the backup and recovery process
§ Better utilise and manage storage assets
§ Maintain a common infrastructure to support enhanced Exchange functionality

“The importance of Exchange-based information changes dramatically throughout its lifecycle,” said Don Swatik, Vice President of Global Solutions at EMC. “EMC delivers proven networked storage solutions with backup and archival software that enable customers to adopt a tiered approach that allows them to vary service level options depending on the value of an e-mail at any point in time. Together, EMC and Microsoft provide a highly available, manageable messaging and collaboration infrastructure.”

EMC and Microsoft
EMC and Microsoft have been working together since February 2000 to help customers better utilise their information storage, management and protection resources through common operating environments. EMC and its partners were the first to develop and test configurations for the Microsoft Systems Architecture. The resulting blueprints simplify and reduce the time and cost associated with deployment of data centre solutions built on the Windows 2000 Server platform.

Most recently, EMC and Microsoft are helping customers get the most value from Windows Storage Server 2003 with the EMC NetWin 200 entry-level network attached storage (NAS) solution. NetWin 200 provides Windows customers with seamless integration of NAS functionality for more cost-effective management, sharing, and protection of business-critical data.

EMC automated networked storage serves as the core storage platform for the Microsoft Partner Solution Centre in Redmond, Washington. EMC is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for Service and a Gold Certified Partner for Software.
