Latest technologies bring a classroom without walls

For Immediate Release: December 2, 2003 - The latest learning technologies will be showcased at an upcoming conference being held 4-6 December at the Cooloola Sunshine Institute of TAFE, Mooloolaba Campus, Lady Musgrave Drive, Mountain Creek. The theme of the conference is E2 Learning: Future Dimensions and it will showcase technologies being used in TAFE Colleges, Universities and Schools to extend E-learning beyond that which we currently know.

This is the sixth annual conference organised by LearnTel, a Sydney based company that uses these real-time conferencing technologies to conduct it’s own business nationally and internationally.

LearnTel’s founder and Managing Director, Carol Daunt, said that E-learning was moving beyond the bounds of the computer and programs delivered online. “In the next two years, students will be using one device to interact real-time with each other and their teachers from wherever they are in the world. Teachers will be able to design rich and engaging learning experiences that take students beyond the classroom walls to experience environments that they would not normally be able to visit.,” she said.

Videolinq, TAFE Queensland is an organisation at the forefront in the use of conferencing and streaming technologies to deliver its programs.

Manager of Videolinq, Paul Crosisca said “Videolinq harnesses videoconferencing, videostreaming and web based technology to provide services across multiple sites. We provide quality educational and communication outcomes to internal and external TAFE Queensland clients when-ever and where-ever they may be.”

One highlight of the conference is the journey to the reef that delegates will be taking from the comfort of their conference chair. Through the use of videoconferencing, they will travel underwater with a diver and experience the wonders of the reef without getting their feet wet. They will be able to talk to the diver and ask him to take them closer to any of the local inhabitants. This experience is part of a broader program available to all students (9:00am, 4 December)

Other highlights of the conference are:
* A presentation from Canada, which will not only be seen live by those attending the conference, but will be streamed for later viewing by those not able to attend. (9:45am, 4 December)
* A group of Maori teachers linking to their students and other colleagues in New Zealand to discuss the way in which videoconferencing has been used to extend teaching and learning. (1:45pm, 4 December)
* A hypothetical addressing the topic E2 Learning: Destination Unknown. This will be an entertaining and informative look at education in 2015 and beyond. (4:00pm, 4 December)
* An overview of the conference and future directions by Laurence Zwimpfer, internationally renowned for his work in this field. (4:15pm, 3 December)

Several exhibitors will also be displaying the latest technologies at their stands during 4 & 5 December. These include:
