ComSuper launches new IT identity infrastructure

 • 10 March, 2004 11:27

Novell, in partnership with Open Integration and ComSuper (the Australian Government superannuation fund administrator), has just completed one of the largest Novell based secure identity management implementations in Australia. Now live, the project can provide almost half a million current and retired public sector and Defence Force personnel with improved security with which to access a number of online services.

Manager of Computer Services at ComSuper, John McKenna, said the new authentication system would improve the security of online access and facilities for its 500,000 combined members.

“We are delighted with the results of the implementation, which will enable ComSuper to further expand online services to all contributors, pensioners, employers, employees and other administrators in a secure manner. We see the development of Internet based services as an increasingly important element of superannuation member services. Novell’s new secure identity management system provides us with an excellent authentication infrastructure on which to build future member services,” said Mr McKenna.

The project involved developing a shared secure web access infrastructure for members. Novell’s metadirectory (DirXML) and Secure WEB access (iChain) were used to mesh the customer database with the backbone eDirectory to create an automated customer access management system. A password management system was also implemented to resolve lost and forgotten password issues.

Managing Director of Open Integration, Charles Falzon, said that the close working relationship between his company, Novell and ComSuper had been critical in being able to deliver the customer's requirements.

“ A genuine partnership between technology provider and on-site integraton is key to the success of a project like this and is as important as the strength of the technology. In this case we were impressed with both.”

General Manager of Novell Australia and New Zealand, David Lenz said that ComSuper was one of many Government agencies that were seeing the benefits of secure identity management.

“ComSuper is a fantastic example of good identity management. Bio-metrics and other forms of strong authentication are only one half of the equation, the other half is ensuring you have processes that establish who you are, how your identity was constructed and how you received your access entitlements,” said Mr Lenz.

It’s easy to set up, it’s compact and quiet when printing and to top if off, the print quality is excellent. This is hands down the best printer I’ve used for printing labels.
