An Acer notebook for business people

Acer's latest addition to its notebook range includes the Acer TM8005 LMi, designed for business users who require a mobile, yet high performance, machine.

Acer's TM8005 LMi notebook features all the creature comforts you would come to expect in a high-end machine. Firstly, it boasts a modular bay configuration, allowing users to replace the stiffy drive and/or DVD multidrive with additional batteries. With this configuration, users can expect to get up to a day of battery power before plugging the machine in for a charge. However, according to Acer, as the machine comes, users should expect up to five hours of operation time.

Key features sported by the Acer include an Intel Centrino mobile processor with the Intel 855GME chipset, standard with 512MB RAM which is expandable up to 2GB. A 15-inch 200-Nit SXGA+ LCD screen with 1 400 x 1 050 pixel resolution, driven by an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 VGA graphics card with 128MB of memory. A DVD-super multidrive, compatible with most disc formats, including CDR/RW, DVD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and DVD-RAM, and an 80GB hard disk drive.

The Acer boasts a range of connectivity options, including infra-red, Bluetooth and an 802.11g wireless access interface. The wireless access option uses Acer's Signal-Up technology, which includes a unique antennae design to boost the overall signal strength. Also built into the notebook is a modem and LAN interface, for those users wanting to connect using the tried and trusted way.

Other connection options include four USB 2.0 ports, a digital video interface (DVI) for connectivity to an external LCD panel and a standard external monitor output. There is also a FireWire port, and even a TV-out jack.

Those users wanting to transfer data to and from memory cards will feel right at home when using this Acer, as it has a built-in 4-in-1 memory card reader. The reader supports media such as Sony Corp.'s Memory Stick, Compact Flash, Multimedia Memory and SD Memory - next to the reader you will find one-touch buttons to activate and deactivate the Bluetooth and 802.11g wireless interface.

As with most Acer notebooks, the TM8005 LMi boasts Acer's SmartCard slot for additional security. With this card operational, up to five users can operate the machine, but they can only do so once they have inserted their SmartCard into the machine.

Software included with the TM 8005 LMi i: Acer Notebook Manager, Norton A ntiVirus (evaluation), Adobe Acrobat Reader, Cyberlink PowerDVD, and NTI CD Maker.

The Acer TravelMate 8005 LMi ships with a one-year international warranty that can be extended to a three-year period.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
