Vodafone opens the TXT floodgates to North America

 • 16 March, 2004 12:35

Vodafone customers can now TXT to an estimated 120 million mobile users* in the US, Canada & the Caribbean

Vodafone today became the first Australian mobile carrier to offer customers two-way
TXT messaging to customers of over 80 carriers in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.

Prior to the deal with US-based TXT forwarding service InphoMatch, Vodafone had roaming agreements with three US carriers.

“We’ve opened up the channels so that Vodafone customers can now TXT more people in the US than ever before,” said Ian Scherger, Chief Marketing Officer for Vodafone Australia.

“We’ve expanded our reach from 17 per cent of the US market to over 70 per cent.

“The new agreement also includes carriers in Canada, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Bermuda and Saipan. We’re making the world a little smaller and a lot more accessible for our customers.”

The agreement will allow customers using Vodafone’s GSM network to send messages to US customers on GSM, CDMA and TDMA networks after being converted by InphoMatch, and vice versa. While GSM is widely used in Australia, Asia and Europe, CDMA is the dominant technology in North America.
