Destra’s ‘Click-and-Play’ In $1Billion Games Market

 • 16 March, 2004 10:34

Destra Corporation Limited (ASX:DES), will capture a slice of the Aussie AUD$1 Billion electronic games market after signing an exclusive Australia/New Zealand agreement with Exent Technologies to provide the latest ‘click-and-play’ games-on-demand for as little as AUD$15/month.

Destra’s CEO, Mr. Domenic Carosa said, “Yahoo! (USA), Bell Canada (Canadian Telecom) and Deutsche Telecom (Germany) already utilise this technology in other markets. This agreement will significantly add to Destra’s growing revenue base, derived from online services such as web-hosting, digital music and now games-on-demand.”

From next quarter, Destra will be offering the latest PC based games for a monthly access fee of approximately $15 via broadband internet, saving Australian/New Zealand consumers hundreds of dollars in game purchases, many of which cost over AUD$100 per individual game.

“The statistics are amazing. 71% of all Australian children* (5-14 years old) spend between 5 to 9 hours per fortnight playing electronic games and spend AUD$450 million on Software; AUD$250 million on hardware and AUD$300 million on peripherals,” Domenic added.

Exent Technologies (www.exent.com) is the market leader in technology solutions for secure digital delivery of gaming and application software for service providers who look to digitally distribute, manage & monetize a digital gaming & applications-on-demand service. Exent delivers products and solutions that support software publishers, broadband service providers, consumer portals, retailers and others.

Exent’s major shareholders include: AOL Time Warner Ventures, Comcast Interactive, Concord Ventures and New Enterprise Associates.

“The under 18 marketplace, the largest consumers of games, will now be able to play all the latest games without the need to purchase individual CD’s from retailers,” Domenic added.

“Destra will be working with local ISPs and Portals on launching this service, which will help in their penetration and retention of broadband users,” said Domenic.

“This announcement ties in with our strategy to offer music, games and eventually video on demand,” Domenic said.
